Got too far to the right edge on the unpacked snow? Jon

You got that right. Once you get to close to the edge, you are a goner! o_O
When snowmobiling up there I walked off the side of a snowmobile trail to use the "facilities," snow was so deep it was up to my chest 😂.

Easy to hide the use of the "facilities". Jon

Prolonged low temperatures around the Great Lakes means they’re freezing over, which is a beautiful sight from space.

“The glorious Great Lakes on a frigid winter’s day - when it’s probably best to enjoy the view from space,” the Cooperative Institute Meteorological Satellite Studies said in a Facebook post of satellite photos.

The photos show 22% ice coverage on the Great Lakes, and that’s “expanding nightly, CIMSS said.

Mostly sand on side streets probably due to low temps/ cost and the fact if you were born up there your better at driving on snow and ice than other folks imo. they use salt on main highways like us 2, 41, M28 etc. Roads can be snow covered continuously from December-March some years.

Here is some snow pics I took while driving around today. Why I'm I driving around instead of at work?

This is looking north and down our street.

Jan's house down the street from us. She had the snow taken off her roof today. She retired here but taught tech school in IA.

This is a street we go up and down on a regular bases which occasionally gets slick and is quite steep. This is again looking north and at the canal. I seen a few front wheel drive cars not get up it this week. The ski area is mount Ripley. Snow tires and 4wd are your friends....

You know you live in a snowbelt when the banks are at the bottoms of street signs half way thru winter. And you see equipment like this going down the road.

This is the snow-go clearing our street a few years ago. Who doesn't have one?
Calumet gets more snow than we do. View attachment 731344
In Niles, MI, just at the southern edge of Michigan, they plow the streets to the center instead of the sides in the downtown area. It makes a big median. Then they do like that picture, blow it into trucks, and take it away.

But that picture really shows the depths. Looks to be as high as that roof of the building on the right. We'd be closed for a couple weeks with that much snow.

Somewhere I have an old photo (before smartphones and digital cameras) of using a walk behind 2 stage snow blower to clear off my folks roof in the UP My dad drove it up on the roof using a huge snowdrift.
