Nicely Done Andy.

My impression of TN is that it is a common-sense place (at least, compared to norms today)..... Do you accept refugees from Canada ?

My excess solar production for the last 12 months “Retails” a little over $900.

No idea under the new reduced sell back what I will see as a kW is only worth pennies so maybe 10% of the $900 coming in a check back to me?

Back to The Future ?

Kids of my era..... proverbial lemon-aide stand, on the front lawn.

Energy Costs in Cali (and elsewhere, soon....) .......... all these work at-home digital workers......

Set up a big PV array, hand-written Low Kost EV Chargin' on the lawn ?

No sorry, but with a university degree and solid job offer you can get temporary work visa which usually can be renewed!

Cheers :geek:

Current bill is $380USD , been hot here. Around .14 for a KW. Usually 150-200 with cooler weather.

In Quebec:
.06159 kwh first 40 kwh
.09502 kwh thereafter
plus access fee of $25.11
plus 2 taxes
Not gonna run the numbers, but I think I could run a gasoline generator for less than that per month. My bills are usually in the $60 range with a high month being around $80

Total for 4699 kwh $390.04
That can't be per month. I run around 5,000 KwHrs per year, generally around 400-450/mo. I'm on track to be under 400 this month.

Piloon likely heats with natural gas, but his electricity rates are about the cheapest in North America. Quebec sells a great deal of energy to New England states and to Maritime provinces in Canada.

In New Brunswick, I pay $0.1138 per KWH + $25 /mo for the service + 15% tax. We are in the process of moving to the countryside to a highly insulated new place. Heat pump and baseboard electric heat and we'll run 6000KWH /yr for $1100 total.

About 4,500 kW annually for 2300 square feet 1950’s home with gas water and heat…

Electricity is nothing compared to propane costs.

My bill hovers just around $100 a month for not-Minnesota Power (which is only for city dwellers) and then local coop pays more because they buy their power from Minnesota Power. If you're wondering why we cannot just get our power from the less expensive supplier, it is because being rural, power lines are spread out, et cetra.

Meanwhile, everybody who lives rural knows that rural living is more energy-intense than city-dwelling, and as such, my single biggest reoccurring expense is propane which I buy on a futures contract through my local coop. Next year we're expecting twice the price of 2021—a rising cost that began with the first day of our current administration when the pipeline my grandfather helped build during WWII (he was a mechanical engineer/salesman with Bower) was to be replaced and added onto by a much bigger and more reliable pipeline largely following the same easements as they have for over 80 years (we have three pipelines that trench on the same pipeline in my area from Canada). So now something we have so much of that we burn it off is now expected to cost over $4.00 a gallon, or around $2.60 on a futures contract in 2022.

Sigh. I hope somebody is benefitting.

I just got my bill for Nov. and Dec. It's $599.00 House is 4600 square feet, all electric, on geothermal and I heat the attached 650' garage to 56 degrees. I'm hoping to have the radiant heat on in my new 1360' shop next winter and see what those costs are before deciding on a waste oil boiler which I would also use to supply some heat to the house. Power here is just a little over $.14 KWH. Summer usage is about $250.00 for two months keeping the a/c at about 74 degrees. Total for last year was a shade over $2500.00. Not cheap, but hard to justify cutting wood or putting up with the heat

LP gas h2o heater, AC at 72 for the summer, wood stove for heat, 3400sqft
.20cent/kw electric, $65-$90(summer)/mo
110gal LP tank twice a year, $150ea
$95/mo total

Very interesting. Thanks for the information. Sounds like it can be difficult to know what you are paying. Thanks, Larry

When I was growing up in Alberta, we had no sales tax of any kind. Oh, for the good old days!

Here in Ontario, if you buy a new $50,000 truck, you are going to pay $50,000 times 13% equals $6500 in HST!

Our account is linked to a solar farm that feeds us net metered energy credits.
Base rate here is $.17+/kw with net metered credits subtracted from our bill.
Before credits we bill out at about $100/mth for our 1500 sf home; after credit it nets out at about $60/mth
