The 78 had cast wheels and disc brakes. They also had CDI

My bike could do the 1/4 under 14 seconds. Just fine tuning.
You can still buy 2 strokes in Japan but they would be expensive.
Did you know that Japanese bikes cost 2 1/2 times as much in Japan?

76 had cast wheels and disc brakes too.
Did not know 2.5x higher in Japan. I do know when the yen gained value against the dollar, prices jumped almost 33 percent in the 70's

YES!
I bought a 76 RD400C green, brand new. The first from my dealer.
in 1984, I bought the first RZ 350 while working at the dealer.
in 1998, I bought the first R1 1000 at Wood's in Austin. Man, was that a coveted bike. Everyone in Austin would do a 180, chase me down, and beg me to pull over. I had inside info that they were coming out with them, and was the first to get my deposit down. Paid MSRP for it.

Also got to ride RZ500 imported from Canada. Very nice and fast for a 500. Would easily whip a vaunted Kawi 500 triple, or even the 750, stock to stock.

OK motorcycle guys, you can sign up for Peacock TV for $4.99/month, and watch the supercross races, starting this Saturday night from Anaheim. It will have to do until flat track starts back up on TV. (I love both).

Nice rides Lou.

Deer hair in the front rim, wow! Now Deere gets all my m/c money. Haha
I wish there was a video of it, it had to look awesome. I was doing at least 55-60 came around corner to a straight stretch, open fields on both sides and saw 3 deer running nose to tail. No gap between them and no off road riding that would have ended up any better. Remember thinking this should to be fun and just held the speed. Don't have a clue to which one I hit, figure I hit it about the front leg and it wrapped all the way around the bike. Breaking all plastic on front, cracking side panels and bending up the license plate that was mounted under bike above rear wheel. About quarter mile down the road I thought might as well turn around and see if I killed it. To this day I don't know how the deer ended up where it did. Should have been spinning and fell right behind me, ended up on other side of road in the ditch. Had grass slober on my visor where deer hit it. I ended up with a bruise size of a quarter on my ankle. Those at work that knew I had hit a deer were shocked when I walked in that night. I also lost a bet with my manager as we were seeing who would ride the longest before xmas break. In the end the shocks were bent and radiator leaking along with a good portion of plastic needing replaced I decided to let the bike go.

Miss that bike. Very reliable. Traveled with it to Montana twice, Tennessee, North Carolina. My uncle turned over 100,000 on a Goldwing, I was at 6x,xxx at the time of the accident. Uncle holds record on mileage and deer hits. I think he is at 5.

I had an RZ500 that was a Japanese grey market. They had an aluminum chassis, the Canadian ones were steel.
It was an amazing ride.

I have a small farm bike also @Milo. Just a bit older than yours. I use a Bultaco Alpina for trips around the property, short trips, woods rides, etc. it is a fun bike.

You don’t need fast and powerful to be fun

I agree. Here’s my farm ride, long retired from trials competition.

I never got to ride it, but a buddy of my neighbor in Austin had one with Toomey pipes. He said it screamed. I believe him.

Wouldn't that be nice to have? And.....the kickstarter is on the right side!

There were no kickstarter gears in it. Had to bump start it. Was actually a factory works bike. The rear set pegs and shifter as well as the Ceriani forks were all from them.

I used to compete, my last bike was a Montessa Cota 348. The Fantic was a riding buddy’s. When he passed away his family gave it to me, it hadn’t run in years, but didn’t take a lot to get it going, a needle and seat for the carb, wheel bearings and inner tubes. It’s been trouble free since I resurrected it about 5 years ago. Parts for it were a challenge.

I had a Cotton Trials bike. Minerrelli engine IIRC 170cc or something. Way under powered .

But cute as a button. Baby Blue glass tank and seat fairing. Fun. but not for adults.

Yup, IRC ;-)
