Those old Ventures where great bikes, when I heard they were going to bring out a new one I was contemplating
getting one to replace my HD Ultra-Limited.
But all they did was bring out another HD clone.
Why they didn't update that smooth V4 add some more displacement and fuel injection to make a better Venture
I'll never know.

I have a small farm bike also @Milo. Just a bit older than yours. I use a Bultaco Alpina for trips around the property, short trips, woods rides, etc. it is a fun bike.

My wife and I used to ride a Honda VT1100 Shadow Sabre. I was going to buy a Dyna but my wife had to have disc replacement in her neck so we quit riding. Not worth the risk.

This is a photo of me on my 1951 Ariel VH last October. It is a single cylinder 500 cc machine. Yes, I know that paint scheme didn't appear on that model until 1953 but the previous owner, who sold me the bike in a thousand pieces, liked that colour and had all those bits painted before losing interest in the project. I can't say I disagree with him about the colour.

When I was young - I raced flat track for two years. Norton 750 twin. I NEVER won a thing. My basic problem - I was old enough to know pain and realize I would not live forever. I was up against riders - 17 to 22 years old. I was 27.

My "Snortin' Norton" was mean and LOUD. High octane gas and very short straight pipes.

My daughter quit riding in 2012 and had her bike stored since then. I convinced her that it needed a new storage facility and I offered to store it for free. Fresh gas and a few tweaks and I'm able to ride again after 43 years. 1988 1200, 4 speed S&S jugs and top end with S&S carb and compression release. It's pretty quick but a brute for an old man to ride, vibration, vibration, vibration and too much noise, but it's fun for a while.

Was catching up on the phone today, with a buddy I hadn't talked to in a while. This one below came up; I'd heard of it, but hadn't looked at the 411 before...

Posting for the sub-subset of us, who appreciate small displacement multi-cylinder bikes.....

The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R: 250cc, 4 Cylinders, 17,000 RPM

Wide spectrum we have to choose from.... polar-opposite end from what milkman is babysitting .

The DCT should be a nice upgrade, but they made the GW smaller with the redesign. At 6' 8" and 300lbs my 2013 F6B took a lot of mods to be comfortable.

I sold the Yamaha when the policeman politely suggested I should quit.
He mentioned that his partner was royally pissed and that I lived in his beat and his partner knew where I lived.
When you drive 85 in a 25 and don't know you are speeding? Not good!

YES!
I bought a 76 RD400C green, brand new. The first from my dealer.
in 1984, I bought the first RZ 350 while working at the dealer.
in 1998, I bought the first R1 1000 at Wood's in Austin. Man, was that a coveted bike. Everyone in Austin would do a 180, chase me down, and beg me to pull over. I had inside info that they were coming out with them, and was the first to get my deposit down. Paid MSRP for it.

Also got to ride RZ500 imported from Canada. Very nice and fast for a 500. Would easily whip a vaunted Kawi 500 triple, or even the 750, stock to stock.

OK motorcycle guys, you can sign up for Peacock TV for $4.99/month, and watch the supercross races, starting this Saturday night from Anaheim. It will have to do until flat track starts back up on TV. (I love both).

I had a blue 78 RD400, It was much faster than the 76. Still half the HP of that RZ500.
I don't think the RZ was any faster 0-60 but it was almost 3 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile.
The RD was almost 200 pounds lighter so it was a very nimble bike.
I could stop from 30mph in 21 feet!

I hit a deer with a motocross bike. Nasty crash! Deer died or I would have killed it!

Other than paint color, there were virtually no differences between 76 and 78 model RDs. They had 44hp stock, and 1/4 mile time of 14 seconds. I put expansion chambers on mine. It was faster than stock with a port job. The 79 Daytona special had cdi ignition and different heads. 84 rz350 was water cooled and had the power valve exhaust + catalytic converters.
