Cordless Tools vs. Other Options

I have several battery powered Makita Drills. Batteries cost more than a Drill. However, they never fail to drill 1-1/2 holes before they are dead.

Lots of low priced replacement batteries on the web for Makita but very rare for DeWalt.
I was aware that DeWalt monitored web sites for discount batteries and presume issued cease/desist warnings.

To charge a battery you always do so at a voltage slightly higher than the nominal voltage , I.E. use 20 to charge 18.
Even a car 12 volt battery is charged at 13-14 volts.

Now a freshly charged battery will briefly read the voltage used for charging, I.E. 18 will briefly read 20.
While not totally false it is good advertising hype.

I still use my over 20 year old DeWalt 12V Drill and have bought couple of used spares dirt cheap from eBay vendors.
It's terribly outdated but still works fine for light duty work, and new non-OEM batteries are cheap.

Yes I know you get what you pay for, but they are OK for me for now....

When more juice is needed I use my Milwaukee 1/2" corded drill, or Craftsman or even old Black & Decker from the 70's.

Raleigh, NC had a Dewalt shop that rebuilt all my 18V dewalt tools. They were like new. I gave them to a young friend starting out in business. They were solid tools

Aftermarket batterys were sure were poor X years ago, like 15 years ago I tried them and most failed asap for DeWalt tools. But seems today they have improved on them and I'd buy the them is they have lots of good reviews. I've been swticing over to Makita. No aftermarket ones being build for them?
