I have a JD 5103 with FEL and the muffler tends to get in the way pushing limbs & big brush. Its extended above the hood. I recall seeing others re-route their exhaust but can’t find the threads using my phone. Anyone have any ideas or samples of what they’ve done? As of now, mines folded back, cracked at the bend & headed to the muffler shop for repair tomorrow. 😂

Personally I would just install a new pipe that directs the exhaust to the side and slightly downwards. I would also make the pipe in 2 pieces with an exhaust pipe clamp on the end or the middle of the new pipe so that it can be adjusted or replaced if you need to redirect or make adjustments.

Just my 2 cents..

You think that would increase the noise level that way? I’m guessing the muffler location is to reduce noise & heat from the operator.

I had a look at the diagram from John Deere website and it looks like the muffler is up under the hood. The muffler stays in place and its the pipe coming out of the muffler (tail pip) that is modified to redirect the exhaust. Therefor there should not be too much noise coming out of the tail pipe.

I hope this helps.

I'd just take the stack off the muffler and then use a couple 90s and pipe to direct the exhaust forward and down. Pipes, clamps and elbows like only a few bucks at auto store.

Barring that, I'd be cutting branches before driving under them.
