The fallacy of windmills and solar panels solution to our energy problem!

This might be new information to a few people.

I hope this clears up some misunderstanding from some old posts about traction batteries.

Only thing I learned is if a Tesla battery fails once warranty is over it will cost FAR more to replace than I ever paid for any of our ICE cars or trucks.

Glad you now know that before you might buy an out of warranty EV years down the road.. The traction battery is the tail that wags the dog.

https://fordauthority.com/2021/12/f...ly-plant-as-it-ceases-manufacturing-in-india/

I was not aware how much Ford is pulling back out of the worlds ICE manufacturing arena. I hope putting billions into EV production works out for Ford.
Have a suspension that they don't make enough money on ordinary cars, the US market is on a another planet so very little Ford or GM puts in to research and development in US have any value elsewhere, and the margin on large SUV an pickups are so great that trying to sell cheap cars makes no sense, GM pulled out of Europe, has been talk about Ford may do the same. Here it's relatively small but premium cars that people wants, a market that as I understand it dosent exist in the US.

A little different than USA market where we go for a big and cheap. :)

In the USA generational wealth can be a rare bird for the masses. Both of my grandfather's work as sharecropping farmers not owning their own land. My dad bought a farm when he was young and he make a small living and fed 3 kids there there nothing much to pass down. I don't think the rest of the world understands how poor the USA is in a relative way because of what they see in the movies we produce. Not understanding the level of consumer debt is misleading for people outside the United States perhaps. I think if people in other parts of the world would just look at our landfills that are massive and numerous they would understand why the general American public is so poor in a financial sense but not in image.

Our nation's financial status as a whole is retarding the adoption of EVS I expect. I paid more for our used Nissan Leaf then I ever paid for any vehicle in my 50 plus years of driving.

Like they say you can pay then play or you can play then pay and many do the latter.

I have 200amp service. That will cut the cost of installing a 240V charger that draws 80amps.
Tesla - 80 amps

Why do you think you need 80A? Trying to make things difficult?

Also your math is wrong. 200A service is only rated for 80% at 100% duty cycle. The 80A Tesla Wall Connector requires a 100A circuit. The only Tesla which can use 80A is the first generation Model S with optional twin chargers. Without, can only draw 40A. Recent Model S and X can take 72A.

A base Model 3 will only charge L2 at up to 32A. Long Range versions up to 48A. You can set most anything in between that you desire.

Are the EV subsidies just in the Build back better bill and now are no longer offered?
No subsidies.

There was a tax credit in Bad Badder Baddest but it was useless unless you paid at least that much in Federal income taxes the year of the EV purchase.

Tax credits for purchase of a Tesla expired in 2016, totally tapered off early 2017. Other makes have not yet reached the 200,000 unit threshold. But even without tax credits Tesla dominates.

I was thinking along the lines of a solar farm that generates excess energy during the day, and makes hydrogen to generate electricity at night. I get that it's not the most efficient, but a way to use solar to generate electricity 24 hrs/day.
Tesla Powerwall stores 13kWh for $7,000. Cheaper, safer, and simple enough for the common idiot homeowner to supervise.

The first Powerwall costs about $10,000 to install because it requires a Home Energy Gateway to monitor your utility feed and protect the utility grid from your stuff. Thereafter additional Powerwalls are a very simple connection at $7000 each.

No solar system required. Powerwalls work as emergency "generators", and they work to time-shift consumption if one has a regressive utility charging punitive daytime rates.
