Ordered February ninth...still waiting.

Oh just to rub salt in our wounds, our AT&T internet is currently down. It was having trouble starting at Thanksgiving and then proceeded to die totally about two weeks ago, taking internet service for two hundred other customers with it.

Rumor has it that AT&T is out of replacement parts, and is unwilling to airfreight the necessary replacement parts, so we are left with no service, and no estimated time of service restoration. How do you plan for "no time estimate for restoring your service""

The "explanations" have ranged from a car accident to trouble with the fiber to an ATM switch failure. What the issue is for real, I have no idea as practically every other person I speak with has a different "story" and a different estimate for when service will be restored. All the estimates have been blown through with no comment or explanation from AT&T personnel, despite numerous folks saying that they would follow up. Yeah, right...

What really annoys me is that nobody at AT&T is taking responsibility nor is anyone bothering to try to keep us in the loop on any progress. It feels like we are being mushroom farmed.

Already pricing Verizon 4G home internet and we will move our cell service over as well. Not that anybody at AT&T cares whether a customer leaves....

(Written while sitting in a cold, dark car in the rain on the side of a rural road where there is a fragment of cell service...)

And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here!

Peter
Ugh.

Well the bright side is, there is new tech working and may be available soon. It is just a matter of time. The verizon stuff works for me, but it is not the home internet plan. It is through a Mobile Virtual Network Operator. $$$$$$

The issue with them is backoffice verizon stuff kills the router once a month. Yeah, they cannot even keep track of their "corporate" customers.

Good luck to you.

We are in the process of migrating from Sprint to T-Mobile with all of our phones since T-Mobile bought Sprint. Saving over $100 a month also. I was looking around on their site and to my surprise I can get their 5G Home Internet at my house. And I'm over 50 so I can get it for $40 a month all in. Still using the Mobley Plan right now and it works well in my Netgear 4G Modem but this is a great option for me. Even though I live rural like most of you I'm less than a mile from a major State Highway so I'm guessing that is why it is available. Not sure if it will actually be 5G for me or 4G LTE but either way it's available for a great price. Free modem also and no contracts. Kinda excited to order it and try it out.

Let me tell ya, back when I was working for AT&T the CEO made a statement to the affect: "We DO NOT care about the customer, the only people we are concerned about are the share holders." I saw first hand that to be a true statement as did many of the folks I worked with at the time but of course that is more than likely the view point of 99% of all companies out there.

The cell service where I live is horrible at best and sadly AT&T is the only one serving the area. Many is the time when making a call one end or the other cannot hear or is garbled, I know what the problem is and have talked with some of the outside techs about it. They also know what needs to be done to correct the problem but until it completely fails nothing will get done because fixing it does not "make the numbers" for the higher ups. It always comes down to the same thing, customer be damned make the numbers.

Working as a Technician for a large Telco, not AT&T, I can attest to this. Management is horrible. Technicians life is more about quantity of tickets closed as opposed to quality. Even though they say "Safety First". Don't make your numbers and are in the red 3 months in a row and you can be terminated. And so much of it is out of your control. If you have a repeat on a ticket within 30 days it counts against the tech, even though the trouble can be completely out of your control. These are the stupid things we deal with daily.

Yes, I know that we are a technician nightmare; I know that our cable techs and DSL techs are on the ball, but they keep getting inserted when we call back in with a problem. I know it is hardware farther up the chain, but they still get called out. It is annoying, as it wastes their time, and ours.

All the best,

Peter

Starlink's speeds are declining in the US as it adds customers. 😥 Starlink’s median download speed decreased from 97.23 Mbps during Q2 2021 to 87.25 Mbps in Q3 2021. But the addition of more satellites should reverse that trend? 🤷‍♂️

If I tie four routers together, I still cannot come close to that. LOL.

Must be.....nice. Sigh...
Realistically though, unless you're a business using a lot of bandwidth you'd likely never notice the difference between that and, say 40 or 50 mbs. I realize that many here don't come close to those speeds either (and I was one not too long ago), but there is a point of diminishing returns.

Well my excitement got tempered today. I initially got an email telling me the kit was going to ship on Dec 24 but after processing a credit card payment for the full payment, my account states the status is pending and will likely not ship until Jan 10 to 16, 2022. But I am still ecstatic because it is getting closer, for REAL!!!!
