Hi. We just got our new Kubota LX3310. Snow is coming. What can we do to protect the loader's bucket 60 inch edge from our tired paved tar driveway? Thank you for your help!

I wouldn't worry about the loader edge, but rather digging up the pavement (I'm picturing the asphalt already breaking up based on your description - kind of like my driveway).

can mitigate potential driveway damage by keeping the loader edge not angled down too sharply and putting it in float.

or leave it in float and feather the angle of the edge as you go over good and bad sections of the asphalt.

just drove through Ithaca this morning.....

I used a 2x4 (treated) as an edge on my paved driveway. Drilled some holes and mounted it with some carriage bolts (smooth side down) and vibration nuts. Worked great and kept the drive looking like new. This year I am using a piece of Azek composite decking for the edge which should handle the moisture better.

"Consider a rear blade. It will be leaps and bounds better/faster"

Bingo. 👌

Don’t worry about the edge. They are replaceable. Back blades work well for light snow. Heavy snow, drifts and edge windrows require the loader.

Same as guys do with a blade. Some 1 1/2 inch sch 40 pipe, slit or weld tabs to mount on the edge.

A pipe over the cutting edge works the best.

i wonder how many people have plowed with the edge tamers. I saw them on Tim's youtube, bought them instantly. i had plowed once before them and once after. with the feet, easily double how fast you can go. drop the loader in float and fly. I will take on anyone with a rear blade to go faster. Once i hit the pile, push it up and keep going.

i went from a atv plow to the tractor, with a full intent of a blower for the tractor. I went from an hour to 20 minutes with shoes. a blower is not even remotely need now. and I wait for a 6+ inches to push now.

let me be clear, the tamers will leave marks on pavement concrete. its metal, and I leave marks, 99% of my driveway is gravel.

either pvc or rubber edge, if you don't want a single mark

Blade is faster because it rolls snow off to the side. Which is the most efficient way.

1000' driveway with a 6' blade is one pass up and down.

How many passes would that take with a tractor and 6' bucket. Bucket full you either stop and dump....or keep going and spill snow off the edge you don't want.

Exactly!!!

I have a long lane with ditches on both sides. I certainly have a FEL but turning to unload it can put you in real jeopardy of getting stuck. The rear blade will unload itself and allow the tractor to stay on the road. It all depends on the property!

yea i plowed with an atv, i said this in the first post. there is a limit with a plow, once the sides build up, you either go faster, or have to move it.

snow falls off the side of a plow too, otherwise your taking half cuts ( my plow was only 4 feet, 2 feet gets old real fast.)

like i said. i plow about 600 feet, 1 hour on the atv, 20 minutes on the tractor. i stand by what i said, a rear plow would be a nightmare for me, open roads maybe.

I have a mile long gravel driveway. A large yard and mailbox area to clear. I NEVER considered my bucket for snow removal. Good HD rear blade and go like the wind. No stopping to dump the bucket - snow is curled off the side of the driveway, yard and mailbox area - clear, unobstructed view out front.

I simply don't have time to play with the snow with my bucket.

Well I was going to order edge tamers, instructions say I need 4 4” edge tamers for my 72” bucket ? Total cost with shipping comes to $288.93 wow that seems pretty expensive . To me it kinda seems like 2 or 3 4” edge tamer’s would be plenty ?

Would love to know how you stack snow with a rear blade. my piles at the end of winter are over 5 feet high,

you couldn't pay me to use a rear blade. long 1 or 2 lane roads. i guess. dead ends and 3 point turn type area's yea you can keep it.

snow drifts? yea forget it. I have pushed atv's sideways, full size 2500-3500 series trucks and even dozer's sideways with blades.

Use what works for you, but to dismiss the edge tamers without giving them a try, is just ignorance.

how flat are your area's? it has to ride on the shoe's, if you have high center points your going to need at least 3

i have only 2 on my 54 inch bucket, it works fine, i run in float 95% of the time.

can start with 2 and add more if you find your digging in
