No where in the instruction does it mentioned about having to purchase the vehicle the year you take the alternative fuel vehicle refueling property deduction. So what I'm thinking this is a good time to install the recharging plug and get a refund of 30% of the cost (up to $1000). I am not a tax expert but hopefully there is someone here that can let me know if I am wrong. I still have 3 months to install the charger to get the credit. I may not get the EV for another 3 years.
If you haven't already, I'd post this question and/or search some of the big EV specific user forums (I don't hang out on them, or I'd mention names....). You can't be the first USA resident wondering about this..... esp. with where New rolling stock delivery times are at today.....

Gale alone has done a ton of research on EVs in general.... but we are talking dreaded Tax Law (aka make-work project of galactic scale for accountants and lawyers... at least in my country....) here.

Logic and Uncommon-sense.... I see where you are trying to go.... you'd think that a tax-controlling entity that wanted to encourage EV rollout would take a Build It Now, (so you can) Use It Later approach, but that project plan might all flame-out on that first L word I typed.....

In short this covers German and Japanese car makers are the sources of staffing required to put Chinese EV makers #1.

The USA EV cash back should drive China EV sales in the USA for the next 5 years. Ford and GM have no massive EV sales planned.

The lack of truck drivers seems to be a world wide problem.

We bought a used 2015 Nissan Leaf 10 months ago, have put about 3,000 miles on it -- all local miles. Usable range is 60 miles or so. One route I take has a lot of hills that drain the battery quickly. We love the car. We have a 240V Level 2 charger that plugs into my welder outlet in the barn (so, now my tractor has to sit outside <sniff sniff>). There are no other local chargers, but that's not really a problem since all trips are local. It's interesting to sit in the car with no drive belts, no filters to change, no gears to shift... just switch it on and go.

Last month the EV market share here in Norway was 77%.
Sounds like more Chinese EV makers are coming your way with some nice yet affordable options.

Not really, Tesla Y and Tesla 3 and Skoda Enyaq the top three, no Chinese brands on the top 20 if you don't consider Volvo a Chinese brand.

If you add hybrids to EV we are talking 91% market share, cheap cars has never been a hit here, EVs or not.

On the tax credit for the home charger and installation it looks like you can take the credit for 2018 through 2021. However you might have to file an amended IRS return for the year you want to claim it unless you install/ed it this year.

Didn't read/view that link (those engs are likely moving into China for the duration), but top-gun engineers lured into China is an old story.... I remember years ago reading about an gentleman's agreement amongst the guys flying into China on weekends, on the same flight - they pretended not to recognize each other, then or after..... They were setting up competing semiconductor fabs (factories) on their off-time - something their regular employer would have had a big problem with....

Dismantle our ICE factories and pump even more money into China, before anybody but Tesla is ready - Sounds like a great Plan !

How does that Definition of Insanity go again...... ?

My sense of the Western Europe market is that more people (even of relatively modest means) tend to focus on quality, than price - compared to N. America.
