Another flip side will be how cheap the gas vehicles will make more sense for many people. For someone that lives in town or a few miles from town goes to McDonald's church and Walmart and Kroger's they would be able to find a very very nice fairly new gas car that could last them for many years so the EV would not make sense for them perhaps.

EVs are a status symbol to some. If one is just getting by on Social Security a great deal on a nice gas car is going to be attractive. The same may apply for kids going off to college.

I'll often remind myself to consider zagging, when everyone else is zigging.... (Gen. Patton's line comes to mind, amongst other reasons...)

I'll probably be hunting for one of my favourite port fuel-injected engines, in a rust free body, esp. in that ^ scenario.....

One of the wildcards coming (personal budgets, on up) is inflation.... I've heard that prices of plastic base-stocks are heading to bounce something like 50% (industrial supply chain jungle-drums.... not because I hang out on day-trading sites, because I don't....). Tip - meet Iceberg.

in my business, high frequency microwave tube amps were being replaced by solid state amps, transistors.

in so many applications we had to build the enclosure, the case of the amplifier, 5 times too big so it mechanically fit in the place where the tube used to go.

it's been my experience that the defense dept will make changes only when they "can't get the old stuff anymore".

that's tuff if you are trying to introduce an alternative product, nice if you are the prime!

I like electric cars and have seen them in NYC for patrol cars and ticket people. Makes sense for fleet use and around town driving.
It will be a long time before ICE goes away, we will need infrastructure to support that, it will happen.
Batteries/storage are still the weak spot, similar to disposing of used fuel for nuclear. Need both for them to expand to mainstream use here.

Some maker just issued a warning not to park the car indoors, within 50' of another car or fully charge the battery. Something about bad batteries which won't be replaced until October. I heard it in passing so not sure who it was. Perhaps GM. ???

Why a waste? It bailed out the auto industry by putting a lot of people in newer, more efficient cars. It did something for Americans instead of just handing money to rich people.

It took away good used cars from many people who can’t afford new cars. It drove up car prices by creating a shortage.
The US car industry should not have been bailed out. AND THE GOVERNMENT HAD NO BUSINESS TAKING OVER GM.

In the end it was a massive handout (payback) to the unions that supported a certain president.
Huge waste all the way around. But that was nothing compared to now.

Biomass neither increases nor decreases atmospheric CO2. Fires in Australia and Indonesia may release a few gigatons of carbon, but over the span of decades it's steady state. The programs to ameliorate global warming by planting trees is a scam by polluters. We need to quit burning fossil fuels that haven't been in the atmosphere since the Permian.
