Good evening all. We do need to remember 9/11, can't belive 20 years ago. Wife and I were talking about it, we were supposed to go to PGA golf event in St Louis, watching new and talking when first one hit. Still were trying to figure if accident or deliberate when second hit the second tower.
65F for the start, clear sky, light breeze. Light wind today, sky stayed clear, and high temp was 89F, DP 54F. Bike ride to start the day, valleys were about 60F till wind started to mix air up. Lunch and nap finished day's activities.
Covid update: Cooke 3810 confirmed cases, 94 active cases, Montague 2278 confirmed cases, 82 active cases, Grayson, 13773 confirmed cases, 372 active cases. Cooke 23, Montague 62, Grayson 25, new cases.

Picked up mission bbq and took to dad.

Found out at least 3 trucks have been driving back thru dad’s hay fields. Guy that dad lets hunts, and who mowed all the fields for dad, got pics on his cameras.
When he first noticed them, they shut the gate to the field. They drove back after, so they are opening the gate.
Gonna have talk with sheriff.
Dad can’t hear when people come.

Picked some of his pears at his insistence.
Trees are loaded.

Poured first cup of coffee. 67° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 84° with cloudy skies. Trimmed a tree that had branches that tripped my motion camera whenever the wind blew. Got it cut down and it landed where I wanted it to. But one branch whipped sideways and pop me on the head. Took a good 20 minutes to stop the bleeding. My safety helmet was still sitting on seat of Mule. 😊 Roof repair on Tiki bar did not go well. It had rotted threw 3/4" plywood. Spent afternoon removing it. Neighbor was going back to Menards for new plywood. Should be able to get project completed today.
King of the Hill is back after not showing up all summer.

RNG, sorry trip had to be postponed. Hope repair is not to bad. Not sure Yellow Toadflax is considered a invasive plant. Many more weeds in field are more invasive.

Don, hope they find a good care plan for Whipper.

Buckeye, great pictures.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

2021-09-12,

66° right now...high in the mid-70's and rain in the forecast.

Mowed most the lawn yesterday...with today's rain, I wish I'd finished it. Wifey doesn't want Margeaux trained to use the ramp until we receive the booties I'd ordered. The booties were recommended by the vet to reduce wear on her bad paw. Can't disagree with that since the ramp mats, although not abrasive, are anti-slip enough to possibly do some damage.

Pallets off the truck and the forks and bucket stashed until needed
4052 and Pallets_a.jpg

That was done pretty early yesterday and the grass was pretty wet.

Won't be too long before I'll rig the blade to the loader
Blade.jpg

Plans today, other then laundry, will depend upon the weather...

Thanks!!
The Titan forks are quite well made and one of the less expensive brands. I got 42" forks which should work for anything I need to move or lift. If you look close, you'll see some wedges under the heel of the bucket. These tilt the bucket enough to keep rain and snow from accumulating.

About the only implement I'd like to add, but can't afford it right now, is a loader mounted hydraulic snow blower. They're around $12K. At least one TBNer, Grsthegreat, has the Quick-Attach brand hydraulic blower. If I could swing it, I'd sell the front blade (and the Frontier PTO driven rear blower) and get a smaller blade for the Gator for those nuisance snows (6" or less).

Task today that might happen is removing about 1/8th cord of firewood from the garage. We don't use the wood stove any more (wife and stepdaughter forbade it since they consider the stove a fire hazard...long story). I have a metal cabinet we brought from PA years ago that would fit quite nicely in that spot and provide more storage space for smaller items. I'll ask my neighbor if he wants the wood for his firepit

good morning all
warmer weather coming in, some clouds today and high of 86.
Should be a great day for growing radishes!

decided with only ten hours I was going to wait to change the oil filter for another couple of months. Can't be much in there
and my thought was what was in a filter wasn't likely to come out. Oil sucker worked great, didn't bother with hooking up to air compressor, quieter this
way and only takes a minute or two longer. 1.75 quarts of JD TurfGard conventional 10/30 put back in.

I baked some blueberry muffins last night to take to a close friend today after church who just had a new hip put in. He's doing pretty well too, thankfully.

Roy, watch the Messicks video on hydraulic snow blowers. It's not very complimentary, particularly when the blower and all the required hydraulics cost over ten grand.

read the new Highland woodworking catalog today, in the porcelain library..., and saw an ad for SawStop table saws. Allegedly has circuit that senses spinning blade contact
with flesh (how??) and shuts saw down in 5 milliseconds. Seems your finger would already be gone by then...

didn't get my lawn weedeated this week, all the Mexicans who worked for my landscaper lived over in Lambertville and were totally flooded out and had to move.
He asked clients if they would consider donating and I sent some money using Zelle. They do really nice work and I sure don't want to lose my paid helpers.

2nd garden shed now MIA, simply amazing. Amazon said if I don't get it by tomorrow, I can cancel and reorder. Ok, but I already did that....do I have to order this thing three times?
I was trying to avoid going to Lowes or Home Depot but wondering if I made a mistake even considering Amazon for this. Shipping really is messed up out there.

radishes are popping up

Coworker has a saw stop. He tested with a hot dog and it worked. I never heard of one until I saw his a few weeks ago.

Good morning all. After a week of crazy high humidity and temperatures, we are back to something more normal for September. It made for far more comfortable sleeping last night, I felt quite refreshed when the grandkids woke me up at first daylight.

Mostly, two young enthusiasts taking over sounds like good news, hopefully the bike shop will be there for you for many years to come.

RS, good luck with the wildflower project. For years my wife has been spreading flower seeds from our hay meadow to a patch of grass close to the house. Every year it grows terrific grass, yet very few wild flowers ever germinate. This winter I will be allowed to kill off the grass with glyphosate and like you, get down to bare soil. Pretty sure that will allow lots of seeds to grow, just not sure what - could produce the finest ever crop of thistles :)

Main criticism I read about hydraulic snow blowers is the cost of the unit. As far as performance, they do quite well.
The other option for a front blower is something Erskine sells...the blower mounts on the front and is driven by the PTO with a long driveshaft going forward under the tractor. Not too enthusiastic about that, plus it requires the loader to be removed. I don't really want to remove the loader...although it's shown in vids how easy it is to reconnect, aligning the tractor to the loader is a PITA. I did this frequently when I owned an open station tractor. With a cab tractor, you really need to watch out so you don't break any glass. Just dropping the bucket off removes a lot of weight, and that's all I do...

60 to 90. That's a 50% increase. Nice and clear with a strange orange glow before sunrise.

RNG, sorry about your gas leak...I always enjoy your travelogues.

Buppies, 150 is a lot of words for a dog.

Ron, I know you're excited to have King back...maybe seems like the return of an old friend.

BEF, great pix. Is that river in West Virginia? I know your dad appreciates your visits (and Mission BBQ).

I got several hours of seat time yesterday...tilled 4 food plots, and then hand planted them with my little seed spinner...the mix included (I'm not making this up) Bob Dole wheat as well as oats, winter peas, rye, clover and rape.

Roy, I'd just make sure your tractor's hydraulic gpm is at the high range of snowblower spec, not the low end.

I went white water rafting 30 years ago on the Cheat River. Guided group, lots of spotters, exciting and more.
I was a 1 and 2 guy, those 3's involved sheer drops over little waterfalls and that was a little too exciting for me.
Nobody who went with an organized group was hurt, but some sad tales of individual tubers and kayakers not coming home.
Definitely a sport to go with a buddy. The hydraulics after a waterfall used to make my eyes go wide, and guys would intentionally go in
them upside down and then flip back up. I didn't even want to watch.

there's an old saying in the fire service about not letting some one else's emergency become yours. Meaning always safety first.
I'm a decent swimmer and i sure wouldn't go into a whirlpool to rescue someone. I'd find a rope or a branch or a paddle or something.
So many stories of rescuer drowning in the attempt. Have to think twice before let's roll instinct, or let's swim..., kicks in.
that's why having spotters with the right equipment is the only safe way to go on these recreational rivers. Doesn't take long to drown.

Coworker has a saw stop. He tested with a hot dog and it worked. I never heard of one until I saw his a few weeks ago.
even with all the plastic safety tools and wood pushers, I always worried more about my fingers and eyes with a table saw than anything else I owned.
It's why I love my 12" chop saw as I can see what's going on better from my perspective and debris always flies away from me.
I don't need to rip that much but if I got into larger woodworking projects, maybe one of those folding Makita portable bench saws would be good for my small garage.
I find the noise made by an electric circular saw to be at the limits of tolerance for my tinnitus. I really should wear hearing protection when using it.

Dennis, do you know how Sawstop works? Light beam? IR? proximity? how does it evaluate friend (wood) or foe (finger)?
