I'm plan on removing the 12mm HP line from the banjo bolt to the pump to improve the routing due to issues with the FEL structure and since the FSM does not include specific instructions like many automotive manuals do are there any do's or don'ts associated with the removal. I assume the line will weep fluid until empty but what about the banjo and pumps ends, anything to be concerned with.

Air within the hydraulic system can lead to captivation, not only causing the system to not function, but the pressure build up (back pressure if you will) could damage the pump.

Yes, cavitation caused by a blocked or partially blocked suction line can be a problem. It is often caused by a blocked filter. Having some air in a free flowing hydraulic system will get pumped out and purged from the system quickly. I wouldn't sweat that.

I wouldn't run a hydraulic pump with a blocked suction line. Yes, there is cavitation, but the other, perhaps bigger issue, is a lack of lubrication for the pump.

I am not sure what you mean by back pressure. A hydraulic pump generates pressure, which is back pressure, by design.

On closed loop hydraulic systems (pump to motor/cylinder to pump, with no tank), you do have to be very careful to purge the lines of air after servicing them to get the air out of the system for the system to function well.

All the best,

Peter

Finished cleaning up the hydraulic rats nest and it went well, no leaks and everything works fine. The way the builder tapped the HP outlet it required a slight bend in the hood panel and the flange was riding the edge of the pump along with the line hard up against the FEL frame, something was eventually going to let loose. Can also finally check the oil without a roadblock.
