I bet the BIL will be a one time EV owner or a frustrated EV owner. The world is not keeping up with his expectations fast enough.
Just drive around with a 10kw portable generator strapped to the roof.... all good

Then again.... if various billionaires took the money they've blown on their space toys (massive levels of combustion are OK, if you're rich enough.....) and put it into more EV infrastructure instead, we'd be much further down this E road......

Do as I Say.......

A 240 volt outlet in your garage is a necessary EV accessory. If your garage is full of stuff, it's not hard to make up a 240 volt extension cord that will reach the driveway. Apartment dwellers who don't control their parking spaces will be out of luck, but it's not like apartment dwellers can afford a new car anyway. Landlords will eventually get around to installing charging stations, but it may be a decade or two.

Someone comes to visit me and expects me to charge their car? Yea, ain’t happening if I had the outlet.

Methane..... it's not just for Thunderdome plot elements.....

Saw the flare burning at the sewage treatment plant in the nearest city, as I drove by recently.

It's not like we are ever going to run out of that fuel source.....

Sounds like you may be starting a Gasing Up With Poop Power thread. :)

How do you know? I know a few "apartment dwellers" who could buy you and me and still have money left over for 3 EVs
Also goes to show how EVs are mostly a wealthy persons car. Poor people have to suffer paying gas taxes, while wealthy people with garages and 240V outlets get the EV's with government subsidies.

Yeah one of my cousins and his wife are both lawyers in NYC, I think they pay around 13k/month for their apartment. Pretty sure they can afford a Tesla or to buy my farm and retire early.

We all know what he was talking about. Yes, there are apartment dwellers that can afford a Tesla.

The reality is, most can't. Median income for apartment dwellers is something like $39,000. That's $23,000 less than average. Average is $62,000.

It remains that apartment dwellers are generally either low class or the low end of middle class. They will still be driving 10-20 year old gassers long after I'm gone.

It's true that being poor is pretty expensive. There are still people who pay $500/month to heat their home in the winter because they can't afford to spring for insulation and windows. Only communists think we need to provide EVs for everybody.

Most apartment dwellers I know make over 200k. So quite a bit more than I do.

Most don't own cars, they uber or rent/share when needed.

I have a cousin that lives in an apartment overlooking Central Park in NYC. She doesn't even own a car. She can afford one easily. However, in her words, "It would be stupid to own a car if you live in NYC." There's just no reason. She rents one if she wants to take a driving trip. Otherwise, it's a cab, uber, subway.
Poopty Dooptie Schmoodily Doo !
I think I want that for my epitaph.

I see what Hay Dude meant by rich people. I'm comfortably retired on less than half of that, but don't have a mortgage or pay rent. I do have 50 amp 240 volt outlets, one in the garage and a couple in the shop, plus a long 240 volt extension cord because hauling the welder around is cheaper than buying long welding leads. For most rural people, setting up an EV charger outlet is trivial, and costs less than a tank of gas.

I am opposed to using public funds to provide EV charging stations. I think EV drivers should have to foot the bill, and if apartment dwellers want an EV hookup in their parking space they need to take it up with the landlord. Road taxes will be either flat rate or based on odometer readings.

42% of our local housing is renter occupied.
Coincidentally, 42% of our population's education level is some high school, as in, didn't finish high school.
I don't think those are the ones bringing in EV incomes, or owning homes.
I know the numbers don't necessarily mean anything more than a coincidence, however, it's kinda interesting.

Go to this website and plug in your area. Maybe your demographics explain the difference in income levels.

Will be? We shall see, but the fact remains that people unable to afford subsidized EVs and pay no road taxes through gasoline consumption is what’s going on here and NOW. Speculation of what might happen is great, but it isn’t reality.
Its wrong to subsidize cars for the wealthy and make poorer people who can’t afford fancy EVs pay more taxes and feel bad about air pollutio.
