Took this picture yesterday from my buddies yard 1 1/2 miles from the fire. The planes and helicopters were flying for hours directly over us at a few hundred feet above the tree tops. It was quite a spectacle to behold. We were there to help him evacuate in the event that the wind changed direction. There were 100 degree temps and strong wind gusts blowing the fire and smoke to the north (your place). I'm 15 miles south and safe for now. Forecast calls for temps to be 100+ degrees for the next 10 days. The forest service and Calfire are taking a lot of heat for not aggressively attacking the fire when it was only 10 acres. It was at 13,000 acres yesterday morning and spreading rapidly.Getting high level smoke from the Lava fire near Shasta/Weed. Give the woods a few days on a hair dryer and strike a spark.
Not sure I'd want that kind of humidity, especially at that temperature. Cool & clammy...yuck!Currently overcast 66F 78% humidity.
I could do that all summer long.
When I was growing up, ISTR bringing in the first cutting of hay in late June/early July. Seems today it's getting earlier and earlier...some around here were doing it in early June this year! And we didn't have a particularly warm spring either.Several hay growers already cut their hay around here, can't say i remember seeing cutting this early in the past.
Sure makes the corn grow though. Seems like it's grown about a foot in the last week, excluding what's under water. Not sure I'd want that kind of humidity, especially at that temperature. Cool & clammy...yuck!

oosik, I am very afraid about the potential this year . . . last year was very bad here, I had to help with fire breaks (I have a dozer) and fighting the fire . . . you know there are idiots out there that are going to set off fireworks . . .About seven years ago a wildfire was accidentally started and was moving directly east - toward me. Watermelon Hill Wildfire. Forty years and, fortunately, the ONLY wildfire anywhere near my property. Smoke - that's a whole different matter.
Anyhow - the two helicopters used to battle this fire were "dipping" out of my little lake. One landed in my open field and a fellow came to the house. Asked permission to "dip". My answer - "H*LL yes - get on with it man". For six or seven hours - back/forth. Like bees going from the flower back to the hive.
This fire was stopped just 100 yards short of my west property line.
Another point - this was in July, 2014, and it wasn't unseasonably hot. But the fire was wind driven and moved incredibly fast. A whole lot of field stacked hay got burned. No outbuilding nor houses were burned. Everybody dodged a bullet on this one.
This year has the potential to be FAR worse. I just hope everybody recognizes this and is very careful.
Sure, i'd prefer less humidity, but compare it to 115F at 35%. That feels like somebody put a hot wet blanket on you. Then add a nice breeze, and it feels like a hot wet blanket and one of those salamander heaters pointed towards you.Not sure I'd want that kind of humidity, especially at that temperature. Cool & clammy...yuck!
