I'm here and I never heard of that. It must be a story circulating in Texas.

See my sig quote .... :)
Ha! That's me all the time. I'll be talking to somebody and they'll say 'Hey, what's up with all the ______________ going on where you are?' and 9 times out of 10 I have no idea what they're even talking about. It's like some media droid sees 1 or 2 people do something odd, they write a story because it makes for good clickbait, then everybody reading it just assumes it's this massive state-wide thing.

1 in 5 EV owners switch back to gas because keeping their EVs charged is a PITA...I can't believe some doubt the fact that people (even in CA) DO charge their EVs with generators...
You're talking about the EV owners that are sick because they didn't buy Tesla to start with.

Tesla is just breaking the trail, many more are going to follow.
China will rule. Tesla is forecast to only have 10% market in 2030. Today they are the only proven ICE replacement option. Our Nissan Leaf is awesome but is not an ICE killer. Our road car is a 2010 F-150.

The entity that will rule is the one that creates a feasible, affordable mobile power source that does not require charging a battery from the grid...

Anyone that thinks the future of EVs involves batteries...they have no sense of vision of the big picture...

Sounds like Chinese chips are not there.

That sounds like Tesla for sure.

It sounds like you get a discount for electric use at night. I don't and I don't see why they would start that policy. That's kind of like gas stations giving you 10 cents off after 10:00 p.m. when it's slow, I haven't seen it. Time will tell but I don't see my electric prices going down in my lifetime. I think it's common knowledge that electricity customers use more electricity now than they did 30 years ago and the price has gone up not down. More likely due to the laws of supply and demand, electric rates will go up.
Around here it's 11:00 p.m.
We have time of use and demand power at work and the price gets ridiculously cheap after 11:00 p.m.

The downside is, whatever our max 15 minute daytime KWH usage for the month is what we get billed as if we used for the entire month.

Ouch! But that model does track along with how the utility needs to plan their maximum generating capacity, so I guess it makes sense.

I mentioned this before - a friend in Sacramento bought a Tesla and signed up for SMUD's charger install, special meter, and their time-of-use pricing. He was amazed to learn that their EV plan includes SMUD paying HIM occasionally when they need to shed excess capacity in the middle of the night.

I remember Tesla and maybe others trying for solar on their experimental cars.
Didn't work in garages and throughput to weight was not good.
Maybe as they get the efficiencies up on solar this will change, but not soon.
Maybe give away solar panels with each new car :)

Is it funny, stupid or just plain ironic that some EV owners in CA are using gasoline generators to charge their car batteries...!

I thought gas generators were illegal in California. I thought I read all generators had to be battery powered.
