Federal EV tax credits advanced Wednesday, getting close to a vote in the Senate.
$7,500 tax credit and additional $2,500 if built in the U.S. and additional $2,500 if built with unionized labor.
Total $12,500 but only applies to EV vehicles less than $80,000.

That would bring down the price of the basic Ford Lightning to $27,474.00
That got my attention.

While Mossy touched in ethanol which I dislike anyway, while I don't grow corn for alcohol production. Most people don't know that if you contract to grow corn for ethanol, you must grow a specific variety, usually mandate by the distiller. Not just any corn but a specific variety, genetically altered to produce more sugars.

To me the whole ethanol thing is nothing but big government dictating what you have to use in your vehicle and as a reference, it takes more energy to produce corn liquor than the liquor produces. Its a net looser and always has been and if the Gummit don't subsidize them (distillers) they would fold.

Probably come up with some sort of surcharge on plug in cars too. You have to pay your pound of flesh no matter what.

Ethanol was a deal with the devil. It was supposed to reduce dependence on foreign oil an provide a larger market for corn. Legislation written by the Big Oil and Agri Business Lobby - what could possibly go wrong?

I hate ethanol, and won't put in any small engine.

I should add that neither of those are cabovers, imo. Are crash test standards different for medium duty trucks as opposed to passenger vehicles? ......

I don't hate it. Just an inconvenience. I use it in everything along with Marine Stabil.
That is more of the same problem as ethanol.

The problem with ethanol is that it carries water in solution. Furthermore some of the ethanol oxygen is available so oxygen plus water equals potential for corrosion.

Ethanol is bearable if you can keep water out of it. Ethanol treatments only increase the amount of water that can be carried in solution. Doesn't "neutralize" ethanol.

"Ethanol treatments" can not get rid of or eliminate ethanol, they do more of exactly the same thing: increase the capacity to carry water. Add an "ethanol stabilizer" to cloudy E10 and the cloudiness goes away! Hurray! It was only cloudy because there was so much water it was starting to fall out of solution. But thanks to the ethanol "treatment" you can push even more water through your engine than with plain E10!

What voltage do solar panels put out? 24V? 48V? More? Less? Ohm's law says half the voltage, twice the current for a given amount of power. Also keep in mind that inverters are not 100% efficient. Sounds like you'd need a pretty hefty array. Never mind that most of the charging would likely take place at night when those panels aren't putting out anything.
While the draw of a car recharger isn't that of a welder, neither is anyone running a welder at 100% duty cycle for 8+ hours straight either.
A tried a true method used for super fund sites.
we are capitalists when it comes to profits.....socialists when it comes to liability.

PBS Nova had an episode on battery powered airplanes on tv last nite.

They are farther down the road than i thought but......

i kept waiting for them to address the obvious problem, that is, energy storage. Never really talked much about that.

IMHO, the next big step in technology will be storage.

Toyota unveils hydrogen-burning engine plan to fight EV mania.

If you are unable to learn how to join the EV movement then why not buck the trend?

Old line ICE car companies are inviting the Chinese EV makers to own the USA vehicle market like they invited in Japanese auto makers 50 years ago by setting on their butts making only gas guzzlers. Looks like Japan is going to miss the EV movement by following our play book from 50 years ago.
