Apparently Ford is saying this will be the most powerful F-150

Ever

PS A 2017-19 Chevy Bolt burned the other day and did over $250K in damages to the property.
Owner says the car had Chevy's charge limit program update.

Looking like full battery replacement may be necessary after all.?

I was wondering how the Feds and States were going to replace gas tax revenues.

They are way ahead of me.

So you get a fed discount up front and a state charge on ownership.
Many states like CA are pushing for Electric autos, without the infrastructure to support them, or people with enough money to buy them.
It'll get there some day...

gas cars catch fire more often, they just do it usually when running down the road and not in a garage.

Usually if a gas/diesel vehicle catches fire it's because it was involved in an accident and the fuel system was broken (or something like a semi truck with a hanging brake).
It is extremely rare for a gas/diesel vehicle to catch on fire absent a traumatic incident that causes a leak in the fuel system.

you have never been to Brooklyn :)
Poorly kept cars with lots of salt damage and failing brake or fuel line fires seem to happen on the belt parkway whenever I drive it.
But is it easier or harder to put out a gas/oil fire or electrical/ battery fire, this I know little about.

Personally, I wouldn't call it a "state charge on ownership." I would say it's a partial accounting for the gasoline sales tax that will not be paid by the EV owner. To be more accurate, I think it would need to account for the number of miles that the vehicle is driven.

I also don't agree with the "fed discount up front." I think the technology should stand or fall on its merit. Especially with the high-end EVs, I don't see why the general taxpayer should help fund the individual enthusiast with his expensive car purchase.

We had a rash of cars burn up in the owners garage. Then they had a recall of 4.5 million vehicles.

"The faulty switch can leak hydraulic fluid, overheat, smoke and then burn, and risks causing a fire even when the ignition is turned off, parked and unattended, the NHTSA said."

Opps, while looking for this web site I found this one that says my KIA will catch fire and I should not park it in the garage until the recall fixes it.

Plus if you google fire/vehicle/recall you will find many more. They just don't make the headlines when they burn and fire departments, unless they know of the recall will attribute the fire to another cause.

The Polestar 2 (Volvo) should be a contender from China.

Finally, an electric vehicle I like. The Canoo pickup truck.

Then I read up on the company, and the company that it came from. I give it a 10% chance of actual production.

10% was the chance Elon Musk gave Tesla of making it. Starting new vehicle manufacturing company chance of success approaches ZERO based on my memory of the past 50+ years.

Huge when it comes to new EV makers is will they be around for repairs and recalls.

Oh,,,, they will find a way. What is next, taxing bicyclists and pedestrians?

Wait a minute, they SHOULD tax bicyclists if they are taxing motorists.

Right , But Chevy said the new "software" update is to be the final fix. LG chem ,made both hyundai and Kia's pouch style cells as are the 2017-2019 Bolts. hyundai is recalling ALL of the cars and replacing All of the batteries due to a misalignment or cell separator in the cell assembly that can/ has resulted in a short

Right, but Chevy has pulled their certified status from all 2017-2019 Bolts, and has issued a Stop sale order on all 2017 and 18's.

My understanding is Chevy dealership's will not sell them at all. 2020 and newer Bolts are not affected. Hyundai/Kia uses the same style pouch cells and has committed to replacing every single battery pack, just looks like Chevy may be in the same boat.

More info about the similarity

This whole tesla fire in Texas has me baffled. They say it happened 550 feet from house. My driveway Is that long. How could you get in that bad of an accident in that short of distance. Must have been showing off. That car burnt into nearly nothing.

It seems my taxes are going to more bike lanes while bicyclists aren't paying road taxes to use these bike lanes. What's funny is I've never seen a bike using the new bike lanes. It would make more sense around here to have a lane for Amish buggies. Amish do pay taxes as they are required to purchase license plates here.

Bicyclists pay taxes, but also utilize less resources.
We use cars for long distance and family movement too.
Have houses that are taxed for infrastructure like everyone else.
And don't make a huge mess to clean up when we buy a new one and need to recycle 2000+ pounds of plastic and metal.
I wish I could bike commute, but it's already over 2 hours by train each way.

And right of way for the Amish would be good too, less risky for them and cars.

Kinda interesting that the Amish buggies do considerable damage to paved roads. Apparently the narrow wheels and horse shoes do the damage.

/ Battery based electric vehicles of today and tomorrow. #1,839
That was what initiated a road tax by license plate for the Amish buggies here. Horseshoes kill asphalt.

About 35 years ago I had a wholesale florist delivery route from South Bend, Mishawaka, Osceola, Elkhart, Bristol, Middlebury, Goshen, Nappanee, Bremen and a few other odd customers. Went out early in the mornings and came back around noon. Saw many horses and buggies out there.

Hard to recognize that route these days. Very congested, yet still a lot of buggies.
