Forward Exit Horizontal Exhaust??

Must be wet where you live. Here, in dry powder like soil conditions, any tractor work will send billows of powder dust into the air, and settles on the windshield. You’re good for only 10 minutes, then have to get out a squeegee to clean the window. I’ve modified mine so it blows ahead and up, rather than down.... helps a lot and now buying fewer air filters too.
Do you have any pictures of your mod you could share? I'm in the same boat with an M62...

Question as I only have a tractor with a vertical exhaust stack.

Do forward exiting horizontal exhaust system found on many cause the operator to breath in lots of exhaust fumes?
Have a new 40 HP Kubota with forward facing horizontal exhaust, and I don't notice fumes at all. The old Ford with vertical exhaust is much more noticeable. I believe the newer diesels burn cleaner too which helps.

I am looking at tractors from the late 60s to the mid 1990s (IH 64/74/84/85 series and their Case IH counter parts) for my new tractor, but not apposed to others.

The exhaust on my Mahindra 4550 side vents about 2.5 ft forward of the brake pedal, well placed for fumes to waft across the driver. A Hamiltonville Farm video on youtube gave me the idea of using an 18" flexpipe to point the fumes lower. That didn't make much difference, so I took a 6' flexpipe to the lower front of the tractor along a path with few obstacles, but the fumes still managed to make their way back to the driver.

Finally I found a path for 7' of pipe exiting behind the driver's seat and that worked great.

That is a crazy OEM exhaust location. Doesn't make sense, almost like they forgot to install the exhaust system!

Good job fixing it.

I have to agree, it looks like they didn't finish assembling the tractor, you've done a better job of engineering it than Mahindra did.

On my 2nd tractor with forward facing horizontal exhaust. Keeps the fumes away while you're changing implements. The only time I've been "gassed" a bit is if I'm airing up the front left tire while the tractor is warming up! Other than that, all good + no worries about rain going down the exhaust into your cylinders!

I have had my MX5100 for over ten years now and the only time I breath exhaust is while driving on the road any distance. I’ve driven it to my daughters house several times over the years and I can taste diesel after the 8 mile road trip. Grew up on the farm driving diesels and none were as bad as the MX.
