Tractor
BX 1880 with FEL and canopy
I was browsing the trailer inventory at my local Kubota Dealership. They are one of the few dealers for Hudson Brother's trailers, a local manufacturer who builds very nice trailers. I've had to borrow trailers a few times lately (and a tractor) and was fed up with it.

Well, they got me with the 0% ads all over the website, so long story short I bought my trailer! And it came with a tractor .

I chose the bx1880. I understand that bigger is usually better, but I only have 0.8 acres to maintain and I think this will fit the bill in every way! I will need it continually for jobs like spreading mulch, or sand to top dress my yard, carrying things around in the bucket or on a pallet to save my back, dragging/moving brush from the many trees on my property, and some light grading. I have a lot of tight spaces to work in, and also don't have a ton of storage space to store the tractor.

By going with the cheaper tractor I added every option I thought I may some day need or want. Cruise control (for use with a sprayer-fertilixers, pre emergent, selective pesticides, iron, maybe some growth inhibitor), rear remote valves, third function valve, canopy, wheel weights, and filled tires. I think I may some day want a combination bucket, and/or may want to add "the thumb" to both the bucket and a set of 3ph pallet forks. Adding those options now seemed to make the most sense. I also may want a hydraulic top link (I understand that it's hard to find the right size cylinder for this small tractor). I went with the pin on bucket, due to the already limited loader capacity. The quick attach removes another hundred pounds ish of capacity. I may try a pin on quick attach adapter some day if I get a hankering for switching between my bucket and something else frequently.

I also went with a 20' (18 flat 2' dove) 3.5 ton trailer. I have a half ton truck so that fits the bill nicely.

Beyond excited!

Actually I got permission first . I'm taking some money I saved, and tax return money, to pay off 8,000 dollars on a personal loan that I used to pay off a high interest credit card, which she ran up, and replacing that with this 0% loan for about the same monthly payment.

So she can't say much . Also part of the deal was that I get rid of an old boat that we no longer use that's just taking up room in the back yard. My dad has bought a much nicer boat so now when we go out it's always with him, and he pays for the fuel and maintains the boat! Haha

She's also probably hoping this means I'm able to finish projects that I decide to tackle more quickly !

I'm about as excited for the trailer as I am the tractor. Pictured below is one I borrow sometimes that is identical to the one I bought with the tractor. The first trailer he pitched to me was a 12'er, had to stop him RIGHT THERE!

Congrats! More pics of the new gear, asap.

Third function on a bx1880.... kinda made me lol, just sayin. The "thumb" or other grapple type attachment will use up almost all your loader capacity. Still awesome, though. Good luck!

Congrats! You’re gonna enjoy both the trailer and especially, the BX1880!

I don't think it weighs that much, although I can't find the listed weight. The install video on the website is actually on a BX tractor. I'm sure you already know, but they each have the same loader capacities. It's also quickly removable if I'm doing something where I need that extra capacity back.

Like I said, I may wind up with that and/or a combination bucket. The extra weight of the combination bucket wouldn't reduce my capacity much more than if I had gone with the factory quick attach loader. My guess is the thumb only reduces my capacity a little bit more than the factory quick attach also. That is one reason I opted for the pin on, vs quick attach bucket. I'd rather add it up front now and not need it, than want it later and have to add it then.

Right now I drag brush piles to the road with my tennis shoes , but if it goes completely unused, that's alright!

Haha. I have steel toes, but when I'm not at work I refuse to wear them if I can get away with it!

Never been much of a boot guy. I worked as a commercial landscaper for about 10 years. My dad is a concrete contractor and I've helped on his jobs quite a bit. Always in tennis shoes! I do wear boots when I have to work in the rain though. My work boots are waterproof Wolverines.

For now, the only pictures I can provide are stock photos from the internet. He doesn't have any 1880s in stock, so I have to wait for the tractor to come in, then they have to install the canopy, cruise, and valves.

I haven't asked yet if I can go ahead and get my trailer. I need to haul 30 6x8 privacy fence panels soon! I've been hauling just a few at a time on my 6x10 trailer.

I have a 36" model on my M and they really are not very heavy, I would guess under 100 lbs IRC

Awesome! That puts me on par with a quick attach equipped model. Perfect news! I'm guessing I'll be limited on flow, and only able to run one function at a time very well, but I guess such are the trade offs for choosing a small tractor.

How do you like the thumb?

Man... I've been wanting to get a Hudson myself; they are made in America, just outside Charlotte, NC. Post a pic and price if you don't mind. Thanks!

Absolutely! I'll be happy to get you all of the pictures of mine you want once it comes in!

I got a quote on two different ones. The one I'm getting is the "VSEBM". 18' flat, 2' dove tail, and I think he said 84" between the fenders and 102" overall width. 7,000 lb carrying capacity, 8950 gvwr or something like that. $3895.

The same trailer in a 5 ton is $4895. I was looking for around $4k, and I just gave a half ton truck so the 3.5 ton fit the bill nicely!

I think my total package came out to about 19,500.

I have it mounted on my forks and it takes a little finesse to hold smaller logs but on the whole for the money it is great, I have picked up some wicked stones and big logs with no trouble. It does not have grease fittings so either manually apply grease or install zerks

Bet I can't pick that up! .

I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I will probably add a piranha tooth bar, or just a regular tooth bar, and give the thumb a shot. I think for my needs it'll do well.

Forgot to add, the hudson trailers are made very near to me. I drive by there occasionally.

Check out mytractortools.com. Jery Dunn has a very light weight quick attach for the BX loader buckets. I have one and love it. Also have his fixed forks which match up to it and can be used on the three point. Others here on TBN also have his stuff. His web site has needed updates for years. But find his phone number and call him. Jon
