Gentlemen...

Any ideas on how much of a gap in time is generally safe for Maple to be cut down - before being milled...and still have good wood (not stained)?

And similar question for pine, if it's off the ground?

For Northern PA...

I dont think there is a gap of time for hardwood, cut down, mill up, stick up, strap down.
Northern white pine form May to October should be milled up in 3 weeks or put in farm pond to keep bug off, have about 4 hours to sticker it before staining.

I was wondering how you would respond... I was dumbfounded at his comment.

Only one of my all time favorite westerns, that kid reminds me of my youngest, always playing with toy guns.

I thought if hunt didn't want to bother with a hurt feelings report and was so offended by that northern Civil War Dixie song he could pretend to be Shane and call me a "low down Yankee liar" but some just dont know what a good movie is anymore, maybe to much zombie hunting........

Then there the round blades, slightly bigger then a circular saw blade although he can do them to. I dont know how this is going to work when has to take the saw blades to Canada for hammering.

My godfather is a master cabinet maker born and raised 80 years ago in a small mountain village where his grandfathered operated a water powered sawmill.

I visited the remote site once with him and fascinated by it...

He visited California twice and sharpened everything with an edge... two man saws, circular saw blades, chainsaws, Skis, chisels, knives, etc.

Used simple tools I had... files, lead jaw vice, ball peen hammer and anvil and a Sharpie.

It showed me only simple tools needed when in the right hands...

Yup it's pricy but son can sharpen when he wants and he sharpens for others, doesn't adjust setting that often but should be done eventually. Have you checked out Woodland sharpener.......

I did look at the Woodland one but thought for $100 more the woodmizer one looked better , yep over 60... who is Shane?

You'd think, with all your time out in the great state of Colorado, you'd have seen more westerns... I was more of a Clint Eastwood western guy. And for the Thread police, it's on topic, he has "wood" right in his name...

colorado is with out a doubt the nastiest place I've ever been! Not a "great" state at all!! And I am more of a Clint Eastwood fan also. And if Clint EastWOOD liked tractors ... now we covered all bases!
