There's a learning curve to --------> properly sharpening bands, it's sometimes a steep curve. They need to be set too...

At 7 bucks to get them "properly" set and sharpened , it's well worth it to me to not have to deal with it.

SR
Problem is here there is no where to "take" them, so I would have to add shipping both ways...

7 bucks is a great deal to get bands properly set/sharpened...

You have to add the cost of getting it done + postage and see if it's worth it to you, but don't expect that you are going to buy a sharpener and instantly have properly sharpened bands, like I said, there's a learning curve to doing it. AND you have to buy a setter too...

Gentlemen...

Any ideas on how much of a gap in time is generally safe for Maple to be cut down - before being milled...and still have good wood (not stained)?

And similar question for pine, if it's off the ground?

For Northern PA...
It depends on the time of year. Given a choice, your best time to cut it is in winter while they're dormant. In spring/summer, they can start staining in a couple of weeks. Up here the rule of thumb is to cut pine and hardwoods in months which have a "R" in the name, although the last few years even September can be a bit too warm and lead to staining.
Keeping it out of the sun can help. Or you could always just bring them down to South Carolina and store them in somebody's pool.

Yeah a Woodmizer sharpener is about $800, and a Woodland mills setter is $300...

My grandfather sharpened saw blades late in life for a living. All kinds of blades. I often wish I knew how to do it right.

Ouch, 5 grand?? I was looking at the basic model which is still automatic of just a sharpener not setter and it’s 800 bucks. Looks to work identical to the one you showed.
And how often do you set the teeth. And who the heck is Shane?
Yup it's pricy but son can sharpen when he wants and he sharpens for others, doesn't adjust setting that often but should be done eventually. Have you checked out Woodland sharpener.......

Anyone over 60 should be ashamed of them self's to ask who is Shane...........
PS finally fixed your avatar(y)

I was wondering how you would respond... I was dumbfounded at his comment.
