How many tractors in your neighborhood?

How big can my neighborhood be? There are 4 houses on the 2 mile road that I live on. My nearest neighbor and I each have a Kubota 3301 with a Uniforest winch. The owner of the next house passed away, his kids come up occasionally. There's an old two cylinder JD in the barn of that property which thy use to keep the fields mowed and cut a little firewood. The last house is new, he also has an old two cylinder JD. Plus a JD350 bulldozer, and an older JD TLB.

Nobody lives on the property across from me but hey do have a few buidlings; one houses their BSM, another is the skidder shed which also may be used to keep their 950 John Deere or their new Massey, depending on whether they are working on that piece of property.

I live outside of town in farm country. Lots of tractors, something little like mine is less common but lots of big and medium sized ag tractors, all put to work usually.

I only have one tractor for 90 acres, but a slew of implements, including plow, disc, harrows, 3-point sprayer, post hole digger and heavy duty FEL. Next door neighbor with 650 acres has two ~50 hp tractors and a D6. Guy with 26 acres has a Case dozer. Neighbor with 5 acres has a whopping lawnmower because his wife has a snake phobia, but other than that doesn't do much. Another neighbor with 40 acres is the widow of a retired Navy guy with two useless sons. They have 14 cars, two of which run, three boats that never float, and an old cable blade D8 that hasn't run in 40 years.

In rural MI. Not a lot of people....10k in the whole county. At least 7 tractors in the 3 mile stretch to the paved road. We do not count lawn tractors as tractors...they only counts for citiots. Everyone has a lawn tractor.

8 in my immediate area but 3 of those are in my yard and mine are the only backhoes, so I get to be the grave digger I buried my neighbor's dog yesterday, the dog got into it with a truck and the truck won.

Ouch, that sucks. When I buried my dog I wouldn't use my BH even though there were two feet of snow on the ground. After 14 years I felt I wanted to do it by hand.

Crazy as it sounds, while I was digging I was sure that I could hear her barking off in the distance. It must have been the wind. ;)

Sorry to hear. I can appreciate the manual digging. I’m not sure how I will handle my dog passing but could very well be in the same manner.

That's me as well. And I'm going to be a soggy mess when that day comes.

The ground is a little harder this time of year. Manual digging might have to wait.

I buried mine in February 2011. We don't get frost in the ground the way that we used to, except in areas where the snow is kept cleared. I knew that it was going to happen that winter and planned to put some foam board down; but it started snowing before the ground froze so I didn't need to.

Over here on our road, there are 20 houses sitting on anywhere from 2.5 to 10 acre lots. Aside from garden tractors, as far as I know there's only 4 of us with scuts or cuts and nobody with anything bigger than that.

Not really farm country here, and hasn't been in 50+ years, but on my road alone I'd say better than 1/3 of us have at least one, mostly in the 25-50 hp range. I'm not counting lawn tractors either. Lot sizes range from 5 acres or so up to a couple hundred.
Pretty rural though, and a tractor is mighty handy to have.

I understand and my father-in-law dug his dogs grave by hand even after I volunteered. But this wasn't our dog it was our neighbors, but another neighbor and myself done the burial. I don't think the dog owner could participate they may have went out there after we left.

When we had to put our Akita/German Shepherd mix down I dug the grave ahead of time with my backhoe so it would be ready. It did feel weird digging a grave for an animal that was still alive. I wanted to at least put her in by hand, but had injured my back. She was a big girl: 150# was more than I could handle at the time, so had to use the bucket of my tractor to transport and put her in. I was keeping things together until my hand moved to the lever to dump the bucket and I fell apart. I had to stop and go around to say goodby again, and even after that I had a hard time of it.

Fully understand. It is very difficult to lose your dog. Very.

Eight houses toward our dead end of a one mile, rural dirt road. Parcel sizes ranging from 20 to 144 acres. Six of the eight have tractors ranging from 30 HP compact up to 50-60 HP farm utility tractors (a couple of the owners are from nearby farm families and also have ready access to the larger farm tractors for big projects). Two of these homes have more than one tractor. Two also have mini excavators. The owners of the two houses without tractors just moved in recently. One about a month ago, the other two days ago. Both of those homes had tractors under their previous owners. Both of the new owners have plans to get compact tractors, so we'll be back up to 100% on this end before too long. The other end of the dirt road is owned by area farmers. Anything that is not a rental property is farm family property with access to multiple tractors.

Not to 'black cat' you; I had to have one of my horses put down (Vet said kidney failure = they deteriorate quickly). Fortunately my other neighbour had borrowed his work's excavator to do some work around his property and he agreed to come over and dig the grave/fill it in. (a 'slab' of his favourite libation as payment)

After the Vet put 'Jack' down (I held his headstall during the injection) and my neighbour was digging the grave, I swapped my FEL bale spikes for the fork-lift tines. I was able to pick 'jack' up a slip him into the grave... he came to rest looking as if he was naturally curled down for a nap. It couldn't have worked out better.

You help out a neighbour as needs be.

My friends simply think I am nuts, with 3 tractors.
Nobody around here has anything bigger than a small lawn tractor.
When they learn that I have a 48HP Kubota TLB, they usually ask...why?
My response is: I like tractors!
