I ordered a pkt. of 10 small sanding spindles from McMaster-Carr Thursday at 4PM......they were delivered by UPS Friday at 4PM.
Their warehouse is in Elmhurst, NJ, and that is 270 miles away.
I did not request, or pay for overnight shipping (a $9.94 item)
I have a parts vendor for work that I have similar shipping experiences with. Even large freight items have arrived the next afternoon.

Standard shipping arrives with ups the next day as long as it's ordered before 3pm. After 3pm next day delivery is hit and miss. Just depends if they can get it boxed up and the label printed before UPS arrives for their daily pick up.

Funny thing, recently I've gotten numerous emails from various vendors including my insurance company warning me about delayed shipping due to the mail service. Yet my recent experience has been otherwise... items are showing up faster than I've seen in a long time, generally sooner than the USPS website indicates they will be here.

Well FedEx has been on point in my area lately. Ordered something for my wife from a private seller on ebay. Bought it on the 15th and was delivered on the 17th from Missouri to Virginia!
Not a small package either.

I drive more than that in a shift at work. I believe NY to FL is 2 day delivery with standard ground delivery service.

My wife ordered a humidifier from H.D. yesterday and to have it delivered to store would be 2 weeks, delivered to our home ,tomorrow. I'll never understand big bidness.

I guess the USPS backlog isn’t cleared yet. Today I received a Cabelas flyer for Christmas gift ideas that should have arrived 45 days ago. The sale ended 35 days ago.

It goes directly from.the stocking warehouse (or the manufacturer) to your house that way.
To ship to the store it probably has to go from the stocking warehouse to the regional warehouse, to your local store.
Has to be touched at each location and if the truck is full it may get delayed to the next shipment.
Alternatively, they might just have a once a week delivery from the manufacturer to the stocking warehouse and then another couple days to get sorted, sent to the regional warehouse then on to your store.

The shoes I ordered Friday PM arrived yesterday... pretty good since there was Sunday and a holiday in the middle. Too bad that they are too small, even though the same size I've been wearing for years.

When it absolutely has to be there it's still a crap shoot.

The entire Nortel hospital external phone system down since mid-day Wednesday.

Replacement card no longer available new... sourced used from supplier overnight UPS Red.

Nothing shows and was told had missed pickup window but Friday for sure.

Friday nothing...

Vendor resending and I pay extra for Saturday business delivery... Been here at the ready since 5:50 am and 6 hours later still no show...

Division operations manager enterprise wide not happy...

Tuesday I sent a Priority Mail box to west Texas and the people phoned me and said they got it Thursday. (That's fast) It was made of glass and wrapped heavily in bubble wrap and cushioned by air bags on all 6 sides in a sturdy cardboard box. It was broken.

That sucks.

I'm thinking I could have driven to LA and back for less than overnight freight and had the part Friday...

My Daughter shipped us Christmas presents via USPS in a box about 8"x8"x4" on Dec 14th, the same day our in-laws mailed a Christmas card (both from Silver Spring, MD to Fulton, MS). The Christmas card arrived 15 Jan, the gift arrived 21 January. So it looks like USPS is whittling down the pile.

.

I've been in the same boat with an old Nortel Meridian system. Our phone support guy was having to buy used cards off eBay.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like if you have to buy used parts to fix the system it could be time for an upgrade.

Very true, but once very expensive. VOIP systems are the rage, which meant new CAT5 cable to every phone set, and new phone sets plus the system itself. I couldn't imagine what a hospital system would cost.

Yep... $1200 card when new and $1200 had more buying power back in 1990 now $40 used... I ordered several.

Yep... 3 years left that is certain at this site... new sister facility opened 5 minutes away...

It's a challenge keeping things going... don't get me started on the cost of refrigerant!

It's a double whammy because 2020 was a huge hit and ended the year in a financial hole... by far the worst in my
30 years here.

The fun starts when the client waits for used parts supply to run out. Then complains about production down time to design and build new custom equipment.
