No recourse when service paid for not received???

Sounds Un-American

As for VOIP. Can't think of how many telemarketers call me and I can't understand them forlack of call quality and tell them to call me back when they get a real phone line . . . click.

Had a friend that bought a VOIP system for his business. Only had a DSL connection to the net. I think he ripped it out and put his old ATT Merlin system back in within a month.

I called on Cisco outside of Raleigh a few times, different industries so no future but......this was either the late 80s or 90s, i don't remember but, they had installed some kinda voip system that was literally unuseable. I would try to call engineers from their lobby phone and it was worse than you can imagine. This was before cell phones were everywhere, I could never understand how they did business.

Nortel is a name from the past. Did Nortel morph into that huge Chinese co in the cellular network equipment business?

2000-2002: Nortel's market capitalization fell from C$398 billion in September 2000 to less than C$5 billion in August 2002, as Nortel's stock price plunges from C$124 to C$0.47.

That had to cause mass shipments of Excedrin and Tums.

School git 3 sets wiring I can see. Original 1950s Stromberg worked real good.
Along comes "necessary" new system costs million bucks wid fiber between buildings except buildings already got wires. Drilled quarter of a mile under houses to get to building behind houses. Only put in 1½" pipe cause fiber size of a pencil. System worked good at first building, OK at second building but not so good at third building running from buried cable bought from phone company. Don't matter, get more State money from Magic Money Bush.

Put in new Mitel system wid printer. Found out lot of employees making lot of long distance calls on school time & dime. Also found out low bidder not qualified dealer wid Mitel. Warranty not worth paper printed on. Pay authorized dealer to rebuild what dey just paid for. Low bidder won't give money back, says dey got what dey paid for to contract.

New dealer points out District paying for 27 phone lines and T1. Nobody knows where 27 phone lines go. How about you dial de number see who answers? No, can't do dat, just keep paying for lines. Dese are professional educators, too dumb to dial phone. Good ting deygot little device on belt dat fits hand. Ain't spendin der money.

I know why kids come out dumb.

Used to do contract business (NEC) phone repair on contract for a company I used to work for. Used to talk to the receptionist for long periods on the 800 line. It's FREE right? What's the harm? Boss sent me one heck of a bill for those calls! Sure made me consious of 800 line cost. I try and use a local number to call a business or my flat rate cell phone plan, rather than call their 800# if I don't have to.

That can be hard though, when all a company lists is their 1-800 number. Years ago a friend got a toll free number for his catering business. He hadn't given it out yet and called the shop while out on a job... it turned out they had given him a number which was already in use (or hacked), and it was some type of **** company which was using it.

As of a few years ago 800 cost/minute had gotten pretty cheap. I think we were paying 2 or 3 cents per minute, the same as our outgoing call cost. Earlier quite expensive. One of our sales reps had given our 800 number out to her young kids and they were local. She got a royal butt chewing.

Great. I remember those days. Suddenly you are surrounded by a hundred children asking "when will the phones be fixed." Right up there when the network or email went down. Or the coffee machine died.

Wish I had a nickle for every cheerful refund that didn't materialize. Then phone calls, time and more remembering to check to see if in fact you got a refund.

I've got one of those going on now with a e-Bay fraudster!

If you have something that depends on receiving the part before you can do the next step, the tracking is huge.

At work we have emergency repair calls and I will schedule a crew around a delivery date if the tracking history and sender information matches and looks solid. If the sender says they shipped an item but the tracking says it has not even been picked up I will not schedule around the senders estimated delivery date.

Similar thing can happen home projectsuesday)

Well the ebay sender sent an eamil saying to expect delivery tomorrow (Tuesday) instead of Monday now as communicated. No big deal but had I had tracking info I could have predicted it to be tomorrow rather than wait today on pins and needles.

Not that I was really waiting on pins and needles :D

This is where FedEx left this box. It is probably 200 feet from the house.

Here is the FedEx truck delivering it. I couldn’t see where he actually left the box, because it was on the opposite side of the truck from the camera, but that puts it pretty close to where I found it.

That camera is very clear, mind if I ask what brand and model?

Dat Fed Ex GROUND truck. Not exactly what you call best part de company.

Still, you can get GPS coordinate fer where courier dropped box widin about 50 feet from his logger.
USPS loggers little better on coordinates. Der software in office bring up picture of area where dey drop. Gotta have postmaster willing to use computer & be helpful er you got nothing.

Weekly packages still missing in neighborhood...

After Covid it's the number one topic at work because it is systemic... not a neighborhood spared unless in gated community.

It’s a Dahua fixed mount with optical zoom, but I set it and forget it. It’s connected to Blue Iris software, and is set to detect motion in the software. Looking down the lane, it acts as the “gate guard”
I can look up the model number when I get over to the shop.
