BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) - Bristol police are investigating the attempted theft of an ATM.

Police said the driver of a black Jeep Wrangler that was reported stolen from Bloomfield was found by a patrol officer to be dragging a People's United Bank ATM behind the vehicle.

They had a bridge like that near the house my Mom grew up in. It was a RR bridge as well, they ended up increasing the clearance by digging out under the bridge. My uncle lived at the intersection of the road and RR track. They built a retaining wall for his front yard when they lowered the road.
The bridge i mentioned had that as a possibility. But there is something about the way it is built that makes that impossible. The reason I am near it a lot is I deliver to the small railroad that owns the tracks. The state is trying to make them pay to fix it. They also do track work for other railroads. They say it would bankrupt them. And without those tracks there is no way to get to their facility. I think the state wants the tracks to expand their bike trails that run near there. So many RR bridges were built when the truck height limits were 12'6". That was the limit until the 50s. And if they are mainline rails the traffic on them makes it impossible to shut them down for a few months to replace the bridge. There are no alternative routes for the train as all the mainline tracks are at capacity.

They have replaced several road and rail bridges around here in a day or so. The new one is built beside the old one. Then the old one is slid sideways and the new one slid into place.

I doubt if footing work is needed done, it is going to be done in less than a week or more......

If the bridge cannot be raised, then you need to go down, and in most cases then footings need to be changed and replaced

Saw a good one at Lowes today.....guy loading 6-16' 4x4's into a small hatchback car, sticking out 10' or so. Put dozen bags of gravel on the front of the 4x4's where they were jammed in the passenger side floor.

As Forest Gump's mama would say.............................................

There were sewer & other lines right under the road under that particular bridge. So they couldn't lower the road cheaper than raising the bridge in this case.
