You LIKE that rear ABS? That goes to show how different people can be. I've had an F150 with rear wheel ABS, ran a few for work, had a couple of Dakotas with the same and they were the most dangerous things I've ever driven. An inch of snow on the ground meant that I had no way of stopping. I finally learned to run in 4WD in any kind of less than perfect weather, so that the front brakes would slow/stop the rear tires.

I don't mind RABS, since Ford's version never worked... I think in the 20 years I've been driving Rangers I think I felt it work on the '90 once and maybe once or twice on the '97... ABS light on the '90 has been on for 10 years but no active light on the '97, I don't expect it to work though... that thing is squirly for some random reason though, probably the long wheelbase and no weight in the rear, but how it goes sideways with an open diff at 30mph turning not under power confuses me... even on dry pavement sometimes, at 105hp none of this makes sense... But I do drive the '97 on the edge of what it will do, but I figured winter tires would be stickier? They're Cooper Discoverer M & S rated...

We did the same. Our house is on a slab, and we have a German Shedder. Laminate flooring and a roomba are our best friends. Takes me two minutes to empty the roomba and clean the dog hair out of the rollers. The roomba runs through the house daily.

The type of underlayment for the floor makes a huge difference with the amount of echo you get.

We sprung for the higher end underlayment when we replaced the flooring in our house. It cut echo down almost 90 percent.

Yes, the underlayment is the foundation.

Terry says she doesn't want a roomba. I may spring for one as a Christmas present to her. She might find she likes it. We don't have a pet in the house but it would still save her some work. Do you let it roam at night?

As has been pointed out in other threads, vinyl in snow country is a bad idea; it holds moisture in, and your floorboards rot even faster.

We had a clone until the german shepherd attacked it, he was asleep and it bumped him, Fritz was not impressed, wife was less impressed.

I have it scheduled to run through the house while we are at work. Come home and snatch it out of the base, clean it out and wipe the dust off the 4 little lenses for the dirt sensors. Then place it back on the charging station ready for the next day.

About once a week I use a lense cleaner wipe and clean the two charging prongs on the roomba and the charging station.

Saturday, I sweep out the laundry room, and two bathrooms that the roomba doesn't have access too. Send it through the house while we are running errands. Then when we get home, we can run a mop across the floors.

Sweeping and mopping went from being a big chore each week to no big deal and it's all done in 20 minutes.

With no pets, you could probably get away with having it run through the house once or twice a week.

With us.... well it's sheddagedon in our house in the spring and fall with a long haired shepherd.

Ya know, a Roomba works on carpet too.
I too am not a fan of the basketball court flooring throughout the house these days.
Kitchen,
Laundry,
and Bathroom.
That's it. Rooms that have water should be waterproof.
Never understood having a hard floor, then covering it up with trip-hazard throw rugs everywhere, or having to wear slippers ALL the time. Aren't throw rugs just smaller carpets? And having slippers at the bedside so you can put them on as soon as you're up?
Then put a cushy work mat on your garage floor to soften where you stand????? :mur:
We were rug-less for a period of time during an extensive remodel. Amazed at how more comfortable the house became and how much easier it was to hear the tv, stereo, and wife after the LR and DR rugs were installed.
No.
I HATE the echo echo echo, the cold industrial feeling, and the click-clack footsteps. Get a Roomba, then get a decent carpet shampooer and do it twice a year.
What "FILTH" do you get on carpet that is only on carpet??

If people hated filth that much, they probably shouldn't touch their smart phones. World and people is a Filthy place. I just love people who walk though filthy streets and then put their shoes on the furniture. Or kids touching a ball after it runs through the dog poo in the park! lol Cleanlinesss is often poorly thought out. I do have a germ Phobia of sorts, despite my love of carpet, but this modern notion of sanitation, particularly personal, isn't apparently healthy. Maybe reflected in all the sickly kids nowadays.

Any hard surface is easier to clean and keep clean than carpet.

Area rugs are better than wall to wall in my opinion.

The stained/scored concrete floors are not for me in most cases but in some places I would consider them the best choice. It all depends.

It’s good we can still have choices in America.

We had an apartment that had stained concrete floors in the living area and bathrooms. Bedrooms were carpet. A flea fart would sound like someone was yelling in your ear in that apartment.

They would be great for a screened in porch or something similar. But after stained concrete floors with two teenagers and all their friends in and out....... I'll pass

We really like the floating floor in our house with the good underlayment underneath. The only time there is an echo is if my wifes walking through the house in heels.

You are absolutely right. It all depends on where and what.

Now, Pergo type laminates I don’t want anywhere. But, some people love it.

Friend built a nice place and in almost every room they put commercial grade vinyl that is used in Randall’s Grocery stores Deli areas. That stuff looks exactly like wood and is bullet proof. It’s expensive but really worth it.

I have that commercial vinyl you would find in a hospital in my house work shop. I maintained that it was the most expensive floor in the house. It is quite bulletproof. I used to have carpet, and I must say, I much prefer running a vacuume over a carpet then chasing stuff around on a hard floor.

Also hurts like helll when you step on a screw in bare feet!

I found wifes ear stud while barefoot on carpet, went in all the way and then I was chastised for bending it!!!!
Such a fine shaft, such incredible pain, moreso coming out than going in.

/ Don'tcha' wish they'd just STOP 'Improving' things? #194
My wife isn't obsessed with cleanliness. She's just very good at it. If she sees lint on the floor reflected in the sunlight she dust mops the entire floor.

We have hydronic floor heat. The floor feels good on bare feet Winter and Summer.

As someone said, I'm glad we live where we can have choices.

If we all had to have carpet we'd be arguing with IT on what color it would be!!!! :D

Is there any color fo decor other than Earth Tones?

Saw a bright yellow lounge suite recently, you needed sunglasses to go near it, was hideous but as they say beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, even if they have no taste.

Better than a bright yellow leisure suit.

Lady friends BEL showed up a few weekends ago for a day of helping out. He was wearing a brand new Lime, Orange and Reflective silver Safety Jacket. Too funny! I couldn't look directly at it.

You didn’t have green shag carpet in the 70’s?

We built our first new house in 1979. The living room had shag carpet the color of macaroni and tomatoes....... It was hideous.....
