Diving into Ham Radio... uh oh!

Baby steps... radio and power supply hooked up. Antenna is temporarily laying across my rooftop. Need to properly ground the radio and the antenna hopefully today. Started going through the 'knobs' last night. Got my HF, VHF, and UHF charts on the wall behind. Can't read them with the glare and small print. Gonna have to come up with something better for 'wallpaper'. :D

Excellent. I can't see the chart very well. Does it show the subband assignments fore each license class?

My 7300 came with a great mic. I added a ICOM desk mic later and used the original hand mic on my ICOM 745 I take camping in a to go box

I have heard lots of guys that use the 7300 mic on older Icom rigs. Apparently the 7300 mic is one of the best they have made in a while.

Are there a lot of birdies on that radio? I have an old (crappy specs) Kenwood wideband mobile receiver and in scanning mode you come across tons of noise which you don't know if it's local or internally generated. I suspect, it's the radio.

No, not in a 7300. It is very clean. There are a very few, very weak and they fall outside of the ham bands. I think there was a big one at the bottom of its receive range at 30khz, but who cares. It seems like there was one up around 72 Mhz, but again who cares.
