An omen for Winter?

"An omen for Winter?" I'd be very happy if we got something more than 8" this winter.

The past 2 or 3 falls have been brutally hot and dry. This one is shaping up to be VERY nice. Cool, plenty of rain.

The past 2 winters have been mild and SUPER wet. I am hoping this fall being much cooler and wetter will make for less rain and colder temps for the winter. Certainly there should/could be some correlation between the two. Maybe some sort of La Nina or El nino setup. Only time will tell I guess.

You guys with plenty of rain could send some of it this way. :D It seems to be our turn to be in a drought this year.

Here in the foothills of the Adirondacks, on our rides the colors are amazing.

Got a shower last night and we're supposed to get 3/4 to 1 inch over the next couple of days. First rain in over a month.
But the colors have peaked and have been some of the brightest in years.

We got 2" of rain last night / early AM today, according to my home weather station. That will help. The colors have been exceptional. I'm hoping for a very snowy and cold winter here in NH.

We've had a wet fall here and fall colors came early. Below are a few photos taken over the weekend. Snow/rain mix is predicted in the high country over the weekend and we'll be camping in it!

Today autumn really morphed into Fall... we got some much needed rain and now are seeing high winds. Not only did many of the leaves fall today but so did several trees. Oddly enough though, I drove past a nearby lake and although the wind was whipping, the water surface was barely broken by the wind.

Lowest overnight lows here are the upper 40s so far. A spectacular day at Lake James. Shurtoff Mtn with Table Rock in the far background.

My wife and I took a drive up to Mackinaw City and back Sunday and Monday. The colors in the northern part of the lower peninsula were just perfect! Probably the best display we've seen in many years.

Gee Moss, I can't believe you didn't drive west just a bit, and see us! :laughing: For the folks not familiar with geography, the UP is 300 miles across and Mac City still a long ways from here.

My grandfather retired from Buick in Flint in 1965 and moved to Houghton Lake! Been there many many times, jumbo peach!

Not much in the way of communications or snow removal equipment in U.P. in the mid 60s.

I'll take some of that cool weather. Still 110 out my way and we consider that a blessing after months of topping 120.
I gotta say this i surprised myself this year. 58 YO and the wife and I woked all summer long in 115/120 degree temps.

At sunrise the temps were already nearing 100. One day I out worked my excavator that shut down from teh heat, then I jumped on
the Kubota and it shut down from the heat.

I can definately say the AC units in both pieces of equipment DO NOT WORK in those temps.

We have one more week of triple digits and will drop under 100 on Sat.

I've about had it with the heat this year. I can't see me doing many more years of what
I pulled off this year.

Time to get outta here.
