68 with heavy rain and 40 45 mph wind gust. Leaves are down enough so the streets are slippery and you can't see the blacktop!
my next project has arrived. Got a huge load of pavers to extend my driveway to the garage the tractor is parked in. Can't beat the price as all I had to do was help remove them from there original location and stack them here.

Leaving town for a few days but will be back in time to retire!! 6 more Thomas days on the calendar.

Managed to get more hold downs on the firewood tarps yesterday morning before it got too hot outside to work. Spent some time on the computer learning about the IR satellites, their orbits, and their accuracy. The kicker for me was that the GOES satellites update every 10 minutes, so they're much better for rapidly evolving situations like wildfires, whereas the other two types are in polar orbits that only update twice a day. The tradeoff is the positional accuracy of the GOES, which could be off as much as a mile. When the fire is a dozen or so miles away, it's much more important to know how big it is and which direction it's going.

I think this morning I'm going up on the roof to rearrange and extend some sprinkler tubes to cover some of the openings in the tile roof. Better late than never.

The latest IR imagery shows the fire to the northeast dying down in intensity and area. I just wish they'd make a big push and get it out and be done with it. It's now in the bottom of the very windy Feather River Canyon, and it won't take much to turn it into another Camp Fire.

Good morning all 55 going up to 71 and partly cloudy. Steady rain yesterday through early morning with winds strong enough to wake us.
Waiting for a dry out to have next and hopefully last stump fire.
Spruce stump should be loose too for the weekends escapades.
Will need to take that whole section with the 10 or so now removed stumps and backfill and smooth it to the contours of the hill. Should look good for next spring.
and will take less of a toll on my mower blades.
Still have a lot of rounds in the lower field to split before I move the splitter to behind the garage to start splitting up the hundred or so rounds back there.

Drew - I used to get up a lot for the same reason. I now control my fluid intake timing so I drink more in the morning and stop shortly after dinner. Helps most nights. Still wish I would not wake up at 5am each day-working at home I don;t need to wake up until 7, but years of 5am for the 2.5 hour commute has me trained.

Dr. says my bloodwork etc. looks great-recommended a Doppler ultrasound for my leg issues, thinks it's probably scar tissue from when the stents were installed. So a visit to the hospital for that soon. Seems like this just happens and we'll see what needs to be done-either outcome does not seem too bad (balloon or therapy).

Stink bugs! - have hundreds on my windows and screens. This year is worse than last year. They always get it, sneaky little buggers!

RS - overachieving even on the blower I have a little wonder 9hp, think that new blower of yours would lift and shoot it back out without hesitating!
I have the 28' fiberglass-always fun getting it up to put up the xmas lights, great workout and havn't wacked myself too hard with it ,,,yet

Phil - so close , 6 days!! That;s a lot of pavers, can;t wait for the before/after pictures.

RNG - I hope the fires don;t get through. Please be cautious.

Good morning to all! Low of 36, going up to 76. These 40 degree temp swings are normal for this time of year, but still a pain to get used to. As usual, no rain forecasted.

Drew, hope you can get the freezer thawed out without too much difficulty. Hope you are able to stay dry during your travels!

Rng, I hope the Fires are kept at bay and there are no stupid decisions on the part of the officials! Seems all too often they become overconfident of their control of the situation, allowing it to again become an issue.

I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of the first pair of tires, not sure if they are the F or R ones. I called Walmart yesterday and asked if they could mount them. They said yes, at $10 per tire. I don't think that is too bad a price. I may try to see how difficult it will be, and decide thereafter.

I had researched the manual tire changer at HF, not bad for $40, but now the same cost as having them done locally, but I would still have to run into town and hopefully find one. It was put on the bottom of the list. I probably won't use it again, so kind of a waste....Just another item in the shop to constantly be in the way....

I should be able to play in the shop and get the top link hoses hooked up. They appear to be very good quality. Shouldn't take too long.

One of my errands yesterday was to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy.... of course they closed for lunch 5 minutes before I got there! I wasn't going to wait for 55 minutes for them to return... so another quick trip today.

50°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 76° today. This is our "warm" day, until a front rolls through this afternoon to push us back into the 50s and 60s again.

Wife called HughesNet about a week ago to complain about our increasingly slower internet service. They responded by sending us their new Gen5 equipment, for $10/month. If it speeds up the near-dial-up crawling speed, I'm all for it. The new equipment arrived yesterday. Probably get that set up on Friday, which will be day 1 of my 10 day vacation. Looking forward to the time off.

I was noticing an increase in our stink bug population this past weekend. They seem to have decided the back of the house and garage is the place to be.

But they kept loading more and more people onto the new service, and now it's horrible again. They said the same thing again a couple months ago when I called to complain. I told them I'd switch providers before I'd pay them more money for something they failed to deliver on last time. This is a long winded way of wishing you the best from your upgrade, but cautioning you that their history isn't the best when it comes to making good on the marketing claims.:irked:

Yeah, we haven't had the best luck with them either. Unfortunately, the only other option at this point is Viasat. They have faster speed, but are also more expensive. If the new equipment doesn't pan out well - and my expectations are low - we'll definitely have to give Viasat another look. I was hoping that some other providers would come along over the years, but that hasn't happened. It's disheartening that in this supposed "Age of Information", someone living just 4 miles outside of a town can't get decent internet service.

58F and "fair" @ 12:00, high headed up to 67F, 40% chance of precipitation, winds out of the southwest @ 20 to 30 mph with gusts of over 40 mph possible.

Ground is looking pretty wet out there now ... so not much in the way of tractor activities, at least not on the lawn.

Likely see if I can figure out what tires are needed for the blower and get those ordered. Might as well check condition of wheels while I'm at it, and see if I should go ahead and order complete tire/wheel assemblies instead. Also go through manual and make a list of the parts needed for the missing deflector and try and find out if they are still available ... and just how proud of them they are ... (just a quick check on the deflector chute ... yeah ... very proud ... :laughing

In fact, given current and upcoming weather conditions, might not be a bad idea to just go ahead and move the blower up to the shop ... maybe get a little fire going.

Schedule some bills for payment.

Refill nyjer feeders maybe.

went to Walgreens for hair dryer, 11 bucks instead of 9 for same thing at Walmart's, but Walmart longer drive and great deal of walking once inside.
Well....no 11 dollar hair dryer, cheapest one I could find was 20 bucks. It was a nice one with a retractable cord so I'll have it for guests at the house.
I sure don't need it...

took me about half an hour to defrost cooling fins inside fridge, mission accomplished. Despite stuffing towels in there, still made a mess but worth it.

Ken, best thing I ever did with my 9hp Little Wonder blower was get the tow kit for it, and pull it behind my garden tractor. My paved driveway was along the woods, and it was
a perfect solution to blow the pine needles into the woods instead of raking them. It was used when I got it, old cast iron Briggs on it, and just ran great, always started on first or second pull.
What would have been really nice to install was a remote control bypass/deflector so when going in the opposite direction, one could shoot the air upwards.
That's something RS has the talent to rig, and I highly recommend it.

after the horribly slow internet I have now until Mifi resets, I am simply drooling about my upcoming 200mb Comcast Xfinity speed. And they offer five times that speed if I really wanted it...for residences. Like most of us am old enough to remember when DSL was the magic pipe for businesses, data company I managed had three of them coming in to handle a thousand online customers. Decided to wait until I got to PA to fiddle with PC. Once that has a solid state hard drive hooked up to a fast internet, life will be good. Here at the campground all one can do is sign up for a dish which after listening to all your negative comments did not think was worth the effort. But will be nice to turn off the Mifi and save some money every month. Not sure who gouges more, Verizon or Comcast...

I was looking at something gas-powered that I could modify to use as a tow-behind, but then this one showed up so I went ahead snatched it up ...

Hardest thing for me was getting it stood up initially.

Killed off lots of grass in spots ... still haven't managed to get it all cleaned up. Maybe next year ... :confused3:

Poured first cup of coffee. 48ｰ with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 61ｰ with off and on rain. Yesterday was another conserve energy day after filling bird feeders. Missed the debate. Doesn't matter I have filled out my ballot. Need to drop it off yet. Need to do a little shopping this morning. Then some house cleaning. Should be enough for today.

RS, you should be able to windrow leaves with that blower.

One would think ... what will likely happen though, is that they will just get blown into the woods.

I'll lose out on them for compost/leaf mold ... but it will save me from having to pick them up.
