Here’s a tongue heavy load my truck. The roller is almost 2 tons and my grapple is on the other side. That kind of load on my ton truck would have the front wheels off the ground. I’d guess that’s at least 7500 pound hitch weight. IMG_9079.JPG

Dad is borrowing the Ford, Kubota and Iron Bull for a couple days to do a French drain at his buddies daughters house. It must be nice to be retired and have all the time in the world to play tractor.... I have to go to work to pay for the toys View attachment 669762View attachment 669763View attachment 669764View attachment 669765View attachment 669766

Now you stop that right now! We don't want this thread to drift. Intentionally posting a properly secured load will ruin this thread and probably get it locked!

Does your tractor have the power to put that thing on the front of the trailer into the dump bed ? That's where I would want to have it ?

If I jackknife the trailer I can set stuff in the bed from the ground but there’s no way to tie it down in the bed. And yes the M59 will lift the roller. That’s how I got I got it there.

Things getting settled down Rocky?: You said they were getting pretty rough. You don't have to say if you don't want to.
I'm going October 7 for dye contrast MRI and ultrasound to learn more. The initial esophagus exploration was a actually great, the object in my neck isn't growing into the eating/breathing path. Doctor says that now this will be cake... It's not going to likely be chewing tobacco related cancer, not likely going to be that big of a deal. So hopefully we will sort it out, whack a chunk out of the left side of my neck and be done.

I'm still talking horse from the vocal cord abrasion, doctor says it's normal and just try and shut the heck up for a week. He doesn't know me well.... I'm a constant talker! My wife claims that there is a word quota limit each day, and by dinner time I'm in clear violation.

But anyways, my worst fears seem to be skipping away... I was having nightmares of removing the esophagus and pulling the stomach up, getting a tracheotomy and speach box.... You know... What's the worst, I'll have that!

So for now, I'm feeling pretty good, doctor said if things are growing inward and blocking passages, your in a much more elevated threat by many levels. This should all work out.

Or not. But hey, it's all good. I've been having a freaking blast for 50 years and I've been very blessed/lucky.

Cross chaining is just hooking the left chain to the right side of the hitch and the right chain to the left side of the hitch.

It is a DOT rule

I'm not sure what that is, but what happens to the load if one of the "chains" come loose?

Same thing as if one of the chains he has comes loose.

The WORLD comes to an END.

I wish I had a picture. Guy left Lowe's with a load of lumber. Most of it over 12 feet long. Some 16 foot and more 8 foot. Loaded the longest on the bottom with the other on top. With tailgate up and the end of lumber under the tool box. Went about 1/2 mile to a stop and turned left. Lumber shifted and not enough bolts holding tool box in. Tool box flew up with all the tools. Lumber went across 2 lanes of traffic and about 50 feet before he could stop. So it was a great site. Tool box and tools everywhere, along with the lumber. I am not sure what he did, as I couldn't stop and there was no way two people were going to pickup the half full tool box and without bolting it back in, there was no way to hold the lumber in.

If you were running short on length you could increase the tie down angle by doing it but if you can achieve the recommended 45 degree chain angle without it what’s the point? I can’t reach the far side of my machine from the ground so cross chaining would add effort to chaining down. For machines less than 10000 pounds you don’t even have to have 4 chains. I do agree that 4 chains is better than 2 but 2 chains of adequate capacity gets the job done.

I think we may be talking about two different things
I am referring to hitch chains to the tow vehicle

Yes I was talking about cross chaining the equipment to the trailer like this which I don’t see any point in for most applications. IMG_9087.JPG

I certainly misunderstood, I thought you were talking about crossing your tie-downs.A lot of people don't realize you are supposed to cross them.. My brother has been towing trailers on a regular basis all of his life, but didn't realize it. Instead he twisted them up so they wouldn't drag on the road; I'm not sure if that would cause problems if he needed them or not. They're like a fire extinguisher anyways, you hook them up but hope that you never need them.
