Would this work for a chain tie down point

I use chains/binders when securing to my trailer. I dont want to wrap the chain around the axle because it chews up the paint. I noticed on the front of the frame where the brush guard is located it looks to be a good spot to bolt on a plate with a lunette or pintle loop. Do you feel if I got one of these plates fabbed up this would be secure enough for the two chains to secure the front of the tractor?

Attached is a pic of the front mounting point right at the brush guard and the other picture if a shot of a plate with lunette loop that I would install in that location

I can't share any experience or knowledge regarding tie-down point suggestions, but I did notice your work station.... WOW, you have some serious wooden beams in the ceiling! Is your work station in the lower section of a old farm barn or what?

Yes Sir, that is an old 1880s PA bank barn 40x80. The summer beams shown are 14"x12" and there are 3 spans of them. Very beefy barn

I had a D ring welded to the bottom of my grill guard on my L3700. Its where I tie it down in the front when I transport it now.

Buy some axle straps. They are webbed straps with protectors and some type of D ring on each end. A shackle will allow connection to the chain if it will not go through the D ring. They can be used for lots of applications

That痴 a good idea but Im pushing 7500 lbs and I feel nylon straps would defeat the purpose of using chains in the first place. To me that would be the weak link in the rigging.

Technically you're supposed to have two separate tie down points for the front, although people ignore that rule regularly. That being said, a pintle ring mounted to the point you mention would work fine. I would mount a combo ball/pintle there instead of a ring. One like this, 8 Ton Combination Pintle Hitch, Black | Mill Supply, Inc. That way you can use it to move trailers around as well.

You can get nylon straps that far exceed the weight rating of the grade 70 chains normally used to tie down equipment. Just have to watch for sharp edges. A lot of this depends on how often you're transporting your machine on a trailer. Axle straps work fine and are plenty strong enough, they're just generally less convenient (fast) than dedicated hooks/rings/etc for chains. I've set my loader and trailer up in such a way that I can load the machine on the trailer, tie it down and have the ramps up and ready to go in about 5 minutes. If I was only transporting it on very rare occasions, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the modifications that I did and it might take 15-20 minutes to load and go.

Is there open space behind it? Lot of the time there's no gap behind those mounts so if you were going to make a plate to bolt a ring or hook to it'd have to be thick enough to tap the holes, since you wouldn't have access to the back to install nuts.
