Do you guys spread topsoil & gravel by dumping traveling forward or backwards? I find myself doing it while traveling forward most of the time, but I have heard your actually supposed to spread in reverse. Any input on this?

Whichever works the best for you. Going backwards while watching your flow rate means you can't watch for hazards behind you.

I usually do it backwards. Just always done it that way. The smoothing with the buckes back side is done that way, too.

I'm assuming you are talking about using a loader bucket. Going backwards, You won't be driving over the material..

Which ever works best for you.
I dump a little at a time going forward, then smooth it out going backwards over the same area.

Professional dump drivers dump in reverse so truck can pack gravel down and they have a rough surface to drive on when empty (tow trucks cost money). Straight dump trucks, semi's dump and you spread it.
