Backhoe Going to buy a #7 backhoe

I have my late dads JD 750 that we have had forever and I have always wanted a backhoe for it. The Bush Hog front end loader has seen a lot of use over the years.

I found a #7 backhoe that looks to be in great shape. Thing is it is coming off of a 955 tractor. So is it going to be hard to find a subframe? Or should I just fab up something since I am a 45 old year machinist?

Since you obviously do have the technical skills, I would definitely suggest that you make your own sub frame.
I think it would be VERY difficult to find a sub frame already made for your tractor, since others are ALWAYS looking for such things.
Perhaps you could get some factory built sub frame diagrams, or pictures before you begin.
That is a BEAUTIFUL clean looking little hoe!!

Take a look at how similar hoes are mounted on a frame support with JD tractors.

Go to the jdparts site and for the model #7 you can look at the hangers spec'd for the 750 as well as those spec'd for the 955. Gives you a chance to compare the parts for fab'ing your own.

My 750 does not have draft control. This little tractor is 4x4 non power steering and completely manual transmission. It is a pain to operate, but it is a tough little bugger.

Yes, they sure are tough. Those 650 through 1050 JDs were just about the perfectly tough simple compact tractor. Made by Yanmar for JD, they used the newer 3 cylinder Yanmar engines, frames, and most importantly: that patented bevel gear front axle. By that time Yanmar had gone completely to power shift transmissions and hydrostatic power steering for their own tractors.... but for the JD models they coupled the new engine to their older manual transmissions. The result was a tractor that is still near bulletproof some 35 years later and probably good for another generation.

For awhile, JD offered a bolt-on accessory power steering assist cylinder for the smaller 50 series. Cost was about $700. That was a hybrid solution to try to ease the over-heavy steering on those tractors with a load on the FEL, and never was real popular. The steering-assist cylinder ran off the tractor hydraulics and added hydraulic power to the drag link. If you find one, it might be worth having. The power assist cylinder was bad about leaking, but easy to fix... annually....

I am going to Columbus Ga. this Saturday to pick it up. Probably looking at 11 hours on the road.

But I am sure I will be back in here asking about hooking up the hydraulics.

When me and dad bought the Bush Hog FEL we like to never figured out what was going on and I found out somewhere we had to remove a plug that was inside the port under the seat. Now this was back when the internet was new.

From looking at the backhoe picture, it does not look like it came from a x55 tractor. I know because I have one on my 855 and it does not look like this. You might already have the right subframe

I too have a 750 and actually just purchased a #7 backhoe for it this week. The one I purchased came off of a 955 as well, as far as I can tell the subframe may have to be shortened by about 2” but won’t know for sure until I have the rear brackets on. The front brackets that came off the 955 were bolted on with two u-bolts, I think with a little modifying they can be welded on and work just fine. The rear brackets are being the problem for me, they are completely different than the ones that fit the 750. I haven’t been able to find any specs on the brackets, JD stopped making them in 2000 and really can’t tell me anything about them. If I could find a spec sheet on the brackets with all the measurements I’m sure a friend of mind could make them on his CNC machine. Let me know if you find any specs on them. Thanks

This one is really from a x55 for sure. The subframe is like the other ones I have seen for x55 tractors as opposed to the original poster.
Quick note: Seems like there were also some frame reinforcement brackets for the 750. Take a look at the images on the ebay link I posted in the previous message. Those brackets also show up on the JD parts list.

Yes it is, I took it off myself. The reinforcements brackets don’t go on the 750, they were used on the 70 series. I saw that add on eBay a while back, it’s pick up only. I think the brackets look right but I’m quite sure the subframe is for a 70 series.

When you pick the model of your tractor on their site it dont refresh to the picture you need. Or dont show a picture at all. Pretty much useless.

I sure would like to have pics of the 7 mounted on a 750.

Thanks for the link. Your subframe definitely doesn’t look like the one I took off of the 955 but I’m sure you can modify it to make it work. Here are a few pics I found online when I was researching it.
