Welcome back, Rick!

What will you do with the chips?

When the Camp Fire swept through here, it burned all the chipper piles left from the Saddle Fire, two years earlier. In the time between, some of those piles spontaneously combusted. And some homeowners used the chips as mulch, and saw them burn in the CF. Chipping seems like a lot more work than burning in my book, and it doesn't get rid of the fuel problem.:confused3:

That's exactly what I keep asking myself to justify not chipping RNG.

Good morning to all! Low went down to 38 last night. We went to bed with the windows open and temp about 70... it was very chilly in there this morning!
Today the high is only going to 67, but a bit breezy.

Rick, sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend.

Ron, thanks for the pic of Lonesome George and his friends.

Drew, glad they found out what was causing your health issue. Do they suspect this could have been causing your symptoms you were having months ago?I hope your house showing goes well tomorrow and you get a bid.

Thomas, hope your substitute dinner was OK. Funny thing was we were having meatloaf on the same day. I was very careful bringing it in from the smoker!

Thanks for all the great comments on the porch build. I had reserved that seat facing the mountain as soon as the chair was put up there! Should anyone ever come to visit, I will forgo the reservation however..... Thomas, I did check the temp on the rail yesterday, but the wind was ripping and I think cooling it. I will have to wait until the high summer temps in order to get a true evaluation.

Yesterday made a grocery run to 2 stores but got everything we needed. Was not too crowded, 90% of the people were wearing masks.

Then had to make a run into the city to Lowes for some drip irrigation supplies. The 3 stores locally did not get any restocking done of any irrigation supplies for the last 2 weeks. I had cleared them out when I did the pond project. I am going to take advantage of today’s cooler temp to finish up on another section of drip irrigation in the side yard.

Did not get anything else done yesterday. Wind was really ripping, gusts to 50, so less than favorable conditions to do anything outside. Today should be much nicer.

Have a great day and start to the weekend!

A mix of sun and clouds and 35ºF for today's low temperature; increasing sunshine and 45ºF presently; and I anticipate increasing clouds and an afternoon high temperature in the low 50ºF's before the rain changing over to snow begins. *I saw my first wild strawberry flowers this AM; cold and snow does not bother them. *A decent day to putter about outside.

I might get 1” - 3” of snow tonight-tomorrow AM.

Yesterday with the tractor’s help I was able to split all the rounds <18” long. Those longer than 18” will be moved to a better area to be chainsawed to burnable size.

Thomas- I am sorry to read about your meatloaf. I remember the time my Wife drop kicked a deboned Cornish Hen that I roasted in our Weber® grill down our gravel driveway. We did eat it.

Drew- I am happy to read that the specialists are finally getting a handle on your medical/physical challenges.

Bill- I like your new stack.

Rick- I am sorry to read about your friend. May he RIP. My + thoughts, wishes and prayers for him, his family, and friends.

Eric and Dennis- Thanks for sharing the pictures.

RonJH- Thanks for the crane pics. I’ve had birds chase after some of my smaller RC aircraft when my drone got too close to their nest. Dragon flies would attack my little fixed pitch helicopters. It did not go well for those dragon flies = cleaning the snarge off the rotors.

Bird- You are not alone when it comes to complaining about the professional weather-castors.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

35 right now...high in the low 50's...going to be a chilly day.
TGIF!!
Be safe and healthy, All!

Where is that bridge, Buckeye? Almost looks like the Thomas Viaduct (which is a rail road bridge...)

In Frederick county over the monocacy river.
The earliest settlement in the county was near here. Those are the Catoctin mountains in the other picture. Camp David is up there on the right side of the picture.

Well then, maybe here's the final nail in the chipper coffin. One early feud with my tree hugger neighbor was having me chip the many bus sized brush piles that were on the property when I bought it. He said it was unacceptable from a CO2 standpoint. I did a little googling and found that the CO2 release from burning was the same as composting; it was just a matter of time how long the release took. When you add the fuel needed to make, and then run the chipper, burning actually comes out more ecologically friendly.

But like I said in an earlier post here, if you live in a climate where the mulch stays wet enough so as not to pose a fire hazard, chip on!

Ky31 is a thicker bladed fescue lots of uses. It is somewhat fast growing but has a tendency to clump. Personally I prefer thin blade slower growth. I have converted the main yard from Ky31 to the southern lawn extreme by overseeding for several years

I used k31 seed, like it better than the thin fescue. But like either better than the henbit and chickweed that’s taking over.

L4N nice job on the stack.
Ron, looks like George is having a party without social distancing.

Yeah, I know the area...when we (parents and I, since I was a kid at the time) went west, it was normally Rt 40...not normally the secondary roads. I've been to Catoctin....there's a revolutionary war era furnace there...in the state park.
My father was superintendent at Patapsco State Park in the 1960's to early 70's.
Lot of history in MD...

It appears the new guy back there decided to ride his horse through ours and our neighbor's fields (corn is up about 2" already) and into our pasture before turning around and heading back. May have to go have a talk with him.

Got an email from TBN earlier in the week inviting me to "WeldingSite." Guess I'll go take a look around over there. Seems Muhammad is expanding his empire.

Wow, you think it was rode, or just wandered over?

Seems he’s creating dedicated sites for the popular spinoffs.
Soon there will be a dedicated good morning site and pallet site.
