Kubota L3200. John Deere LT160
Wife was mowing finished and parked it. Next day no start, no even a little try from the solenoid. Has to be something stupidly simple.
Battery has 12.65 volts across the terminals. I have been trying to under stand how the wiring diagram works ( do not have the specific one ) got a couple off the net
that at least the wires are the right color and the start switch matched up to diagram. Checked the starter on the bench w/battery, that worked. felt it might be the solenoid bought one. Didn't help.
Tell me something simple I am missing.
Thanks
Chuck

Have the battery tested under load.. after cleaning both the cables at each end. Suspect corroded cable connections or a battery on its way out.. will show voltage but not have enough umph to handle a load. :2cents:

Now that I've mentioned that, I need to go out to my 425 and practice what I say.
Had the starter hesitate when I went to start it this afternoon, so figured time to charge the battery. Charger on now, but really think I need to also clean the terminals.
And maybe time to buy a new battery too.. :confused3:

Check levers, switches .. make sure it's in Park, shift in neutral, PTO turned off, etc.

Went over all the items with interlocks to keep it safe. I'll take the battery down to the Auto parts store and have then test it.
Thanks

I think I would have hooked my heavy duty jumper cables to it and with my truck OFF hit key starter to see what it would have done .

Seems in the "old" days, one would leave the donor vehicle running just to ensure that the donor vehicle didn't get some polarity reversed.. but may not be a valid reason anymore.

One of the small terminals is the trigger wire that gets 12V when the key is turned, the other the ground when the PTO is off and the brake is on. An this tractor, verify that the engine mount bolts haven't come loose and that the harness on the rear of the engine hadn't been damaged. If you take the jumper + and put on the starter lug and momentarily ground the - , does the starter crank?

A friend of mine has a source at the local JD store and is getting me the proper wiring diagram. Once I get that I will go back to beating myself with a stick trying to fix this little treasure. We have to older JD mowers and they both have been challenging lately. Some times that is the way it goes. I'll update when I have something.
