Craigslist junk to something useful

Got a pair of beat up ramsey 8k hydraulic winches for cheap off Craigslist a while back. Made one decent winch out of the two, some scrap steel from the shop, and now I have a hydraulic winch on my boom pole for dragging logs in! I heat my house and shop with a wood boiler, so I burn about 20 full cords a season. Looking forward to trying it out in the next week or two!

Very nice. Let us know how it works. Ive gotten a homemade log pole boom and tongs. Just need a little reach off the tractor path . Your set up could be the next step.

Luckily both winches were already hydraulic, that's why I snagged them up! Both free spool release plungers were stuck, so I have one sitting in a can of old motor oil. A new one is $120 from ramsey, so I'll let it sit for a few weeks and try my luck unsticking it again. Not being able to freespool isn't the total end of the world for a week or two.

Try spraying with PB Blaster or Kroil if the soak in oil does not work out for you.

Nice job BTW. Handy thing to have for harvesting wood.
