So... why are those who are already receiving government checks, subsidies, etc still getting a stimulus check?

I swear Steppie, some times I wonder if you are bi polar, again today many of your posts almost sound conservative

:confused2:

Yep, that little inconvenient fact is always forgotten. The auto makers and many others started going overseas as a result of the exorbitant and escalating hourly labor cost.
Why blame labor? Why not blame greedy capitalists who want workers to work for free and the highest profits they can get. Unions - The people that brought you weekends off.

I sure agree with you on this, we have been supporting these people for generations and they are always 1st in line for govt. hand outs. It's been going on for as long as I can remember and there is no end in sight.

NPR - "The $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package marks the largest rescue package in American history. President Trump announced Wednesday that it includes $300 million in direct payments to individuals."

$300 million to individuals. The other 'half' :), $2.199 trillion of government handouts is going to ... whom?

Just who are "these people" you are referring to?

Yep. This will require a high level of maturity. That's $300 per week. Not much for a family of 4. A frivolous trip to Wal-Mart will wipe that out.
Wife and I have plenty in savings and have necessary jobs, where we will be working straight through unless we get sick.

Daughter and son in law are in the same situation. Both will be working straight through unless they get sick.

Son and daughter in law both had their jobs shut down, and have two kids. They will get our check from the government.

Going to the people that employ all of those people so they don't go broke and if they go broke those folks won't have a job. But you knew that already. Your just stirring up the pot.

"If a person makes above $99,000, or a couple makes above $198,000, no check will be given."

Is that you? :dollarsign: If so then you don't need a nickel. :D

Based on what I can find out I will be receiving the standard payment. My question is, "Why?"
I am still working, and we seem to fall under the essential services category. A good percentage of US workers aren't as fortunate and those are the people who need the help. Quite frankly, twelve hundred bucks doesn't go far with somebody who lost their job and is trying to balance groceries, housing costs, and maintain their health insurance. Compare that to somebody like me, who could be faced with the tough decision of putting it toward a grapple, or maybe a Hudson sawmill. The older I get, the more I hate politics and the motives which drive the decisions that the rest of us have to live with.

The last stimulus bill did nothing but prevent the economy/markets from reaching a natural bottom where a full recovery could begin...that stimulus is why the recovery took so long...
IMO...this stimulus bill is just keeping the pilot light lit...so when it's time to turn up the gas on the economy...it goes boom...!

So,
All the media posts Hospitals are overwhelmed, swamped.
,
My local hospital stopped elective surgery weeks ago. Built all kinds of special rooms for this crisis. They have one coronavirus patient. One!
Now the hospital is basically a ghost town. Most employees are being forced to not work, because there痴 no scheduled work.

Really makes you question media hype , and political decisions.

So , a big hospital, empty, doing nothing, and the employees not working. ....

Since I don't know where you are should I be concerned about this information or not? If it's my local hospital you are talking about I definitely should be. If it's a hospital in China, not so much.[/QUOTE]

So true Richard so true, the media is not a good vehicle to rely on.

That's why. It isn't whether YOU need it or not. The merchants do and your plan to spend it on something you might not have right now is just what they're after. It's an economic stimulus plan, to stimulate people to buy things.

Last time the secrecy rules prevented knowing where the money went. After the fact, it was observed that a portion of the 2008 bailout was invested in mergers, stock buybacks, bonuses for leaders of failing businesses, maybe invested overseas, ie other high-dollar transactions that never trickled down to affecting people who were laid off then became bankrupt. This time if the proposed disclosure conditions are still in there (I read that one disclosure provision got stripped out at the last minute) then we can see what we bought. If the stimulus goes to preserve jobs (like the popular GM bailout :D) then most of the taxpayers will eventually get back what it cost them in new taxes and the net outcome is a more prosperous America. I hope this is the case.

OK, good point. If I was more altruistic I would be waffling between the Salvation Army or Lutheran Charities.
But I'm not that altruistic.
