We have a lot of good leadership in this country just like in WW2. It just takes a while to be found and empowered.

Elon Musk: Should Have 1 Ventilators Next Week, + 25, N95 Masks For Hospitals Tomorrow — CleanTechnica Exclusive | CleanTechnica

I found this encouraging this morning. At the start of WW2 things were not going our way. We have been blind and or blindsided again. We will regain our footing in this mess even with the "I don't think they can" group making a lot of noise. The sun will keep shining the the earth will keep spinning. A new generation of leadership will arise. More young people will understand, "If it is to be it is up to me." It is time for the next generation to pick up the leadership.

A couple of weeks ago mom and I did not attend the funeral of a beloved co-worker... we both worked with... a true inspiration with 40 years of operating room experience.

We took some heat for it at the time... even a call from a friend in tears saying you didn't come?

Last Monday as I removed chairs from the waiting rooms and lobby and placarding all the entrances several spontaneously said I did the right thing...

Emotions run high but keeping a level head and acting prudently to minimize spread only makes sense.

Young parents... this is the group I personally see taking it the hardest because of the burden of responsibility... keeping safe, keeping a roof over their heads, food, keeping the kids on the right path... etc.

My experience is by and large has been positive... even extra courtesy and understanding.

Of course there are exceptions... the outlaw Oakland sideshows were in full force again last night... cars burning up intersections with crowds...

Also Oakland sent out official letters stating enforcement of fire season begins May 1... for decades it had been June 1.

So under threat of fine and forfeiture the city is directing property owners to mow, trim, till, contain, etc. with full compliance end of April.

Informed medical people (or those that have spent their lives around them) may seem cold, when they make rapid-fire decisions in their personal lives that other people don't "get".

That's part of what makes them good..... do a clinical assessment fast, then proceed accordingly with action. Getting slowed down by any distractions (social or otherwise) can lead to worse or fatal outcomes.

Those that can see over-the-horizon, feel the responsibility......... I can only imagine the screaming the senior medical people have been doing behind closed doors the last 2 months, to get Western govts moving....

I too have found some benefit of taking Zinc lozenges early in a fight with an oncoming "regular" cold. (IE. I start taking at the early onset of a sore throat).

Main thing with zinc compounds, don't exceed the daily dosage amounts; toxic in high concentrations.

Rgds, D.
My brother has been taking some sort of zinc lozengers

I appreciate all the feedback on zinc. Since I already have acid reflux, zinc sounds dicey to me. Going to read bottle and see what minimum
dose is. And since I'm still on antibiotics for a tick bite, which are hard on the stomach, think I might wait. But if I start feeling sick, maybe.

that article on Elon Musk donating the ventilators was heartening Gale. Lots of folks would donate them if they could actually find some to buy. Since distribution is now
heavily biased towards medical industry sales, not sure we could find one to donate. And I'm not paying 5 bucks a mask when my last batch of N95's cost me 70 cents apiece in a ten pack.
I bought a resusable black nylon mask for myself, plus a big supply of disposable N95 inserts. Since I don't have a UV light, wonder if I can mist spray some antibacterial spray on it. Not like I want to smell Lysol though...
Would like something easier than washing and drying it.

I had ten white N95 masks and sent half to my brother who had none.
Plus some disposable latex gloves. And the article saying how absolutely filthy and infected gas station nozzles and touchpads are.

Almost done but not quite.

Don's comments were about leaders of an organization. Not good/bad about religion. What about his comments did you interpret as offense concerning religion?

The stations with Diesel were offering disposable gloves... I'm sure no longer the case now.

One of Mom's friends is 92 and built her home 60 years ago... I mean she hung the sheetrock, etc... the place is immaculate and she does it all by herself.

I called her last night to check on her and she said she is doing OK and blessed to be able to be in her home... she is one that offered TP if we needed it.

The one thing giving her pause and making her anxious is not having a N95 mask... I tried to calm her fears but I could tell it was on her mind.

I have a personal box with 5 left from the fire storm days of smoke so I put one in a new zip lock and dropped it off at her backdoor... told her just to hang onto it and she had any worries just leave it sit right where it is so any germs would die... she is 91.

I have never seen someone this happy in a long time... you would have thought I would have just paid off her mortgage... which she doesn't have anyway...

It is often the little things that mean the most... besides I needed to get out and go for a neighborhood walk!

The rules say "-Discussion of religious topics". No mention of good, bad or offensive. The moderators will decide if Don's comments are acceptable.

She's 91 and worried about getting sick? ;)

She just outlived the majority of people born in her year of birth.
