Yes it is. Americans have had to literally fight and kill to acquire, retain, and continue our freedom, and our rights. They are well earned by the many, many thousands that gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep those freedom's and rights. You would do well to thank us for them.

Really? Let's not go that route. That can be a very debatable subject. :)

Scott Steiner, CEO of the Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany, Ga., said a supplier was charging $7 for N95 face masks, which usually cost 58 cents apiece, Newsweek reported.

What's the big hype on 10mm pistols?

Well, it is like this. The start of this goes back a long ways. This is a long story so hang on. And I will try to get this posted before the "lock" and we are on #6. So I will hustle up a bit.

Back in the day cops carried .38 special revolvers. And that was that. Then the wonder-nine revolution started, and we (and all of the people that bought firearms for cops) decided that since the 9mm is about (just slightly more) powerful as the .38 special we would all be better served by having a lot more rounds on tap in a 9mm magazine than 6 rounds (or less) available in a .38 cylinder. Then the Miami shootout happened. Oh, boy the SHTF for sure as that analyzed a thousand times. So the FBI decided that the puny 9mm was not up to the task of protecting our G men (and women). The 10 MM was born out of the test with some oddball stuff like the Bren 10. Before we knew it the 10 mm was standard not only for the FBI but many police agencies. But there were some issues. 10mm has a lot of recoil, About the same as a .45. Women and small framed men make up a lot of the personnel of police forces. These women and small framed men were not enjoying the very snappy recoil impulse of the 10mm. And in qualifying, they were not turning in good scores.

Enter the savior: The .40 S&W. some called it the "Short and Weak" :) Since the dimensions of the cartridge case allowed smaller frame guns to be made (more like 9mm) to chamber this new cartridge, and the caliber was the same as the 10mm (10mm exactly equals .40 cal.) This was thought to be the panacea to solve everything. 10mm sales went into the toilet overnight. No TP needed. Now the guns could be smaller again to fit women and smaller guys, the recoil was less, and while the power was less than 10mm it was thought adequate.

BUT. Technology marches on. Bullet designs continued to improve and terminal ballistics continued to prove that. The "Shorty Forty" was still more buck and roar than many wanted, AND with the development of the better bullet designs the agencies started a slow drift back to where they started with the 9mm! BUT everyone was not happy.

Guys (manly men) wanted more. 10mm was nearly dead, when people started buying them again to use as defense in "bear country" The thinking was while fishing in bear country, it was a heck of a lot more convenient to carry a 10mm than say a .454 Casull or some other very large, hard kicking monster revolver. Or a 12 gauge with slugs or a .300 winmag rifle.

So sales started to pick back up for the 10mm. Then people (again manly men) figured that well with the improvement in terminal ballistics because of the new bullet designs the old 10mm would be fine as a super duper self defense caliber too. Just that much better than a 9mm. (note, I don't buy into this, but I am old and decrepit). I don't live in bear country, and I don't think many guys can swallow very many 9mm with proper loads. Sure I have a .45 too, but as I get older, I shoot it less and less. :)

So there the have it, the rise, death, and rise again of the 10mm. Is that what you meant by hype? :) I hope I make it in before the lock.

When it takes more than a 12 pack, you need to have some self esteem.
