RAM 5500 Chassis

Hmmm, guess Im one of the lucky ones. The farm truck is a 2007 3500 cab and chassis (156K) 6.7 w/Aisin that has only been to the shop for recall work. I did have to replace an exhaust gasket @ 150K. Dodge does have a bad rep for their G56 and RFE trannies. But so does everybody else when the users start tweaking and tuning and dont realize where the failure limits are (adding programmers, swapping injectors and not expecting torque converter/tranny issues).

I know 2007 was the first year for the 6.7 but I am pretty sure the Asisin was not available until later. You did not mean a later year did you?

Ahh, a chassis cab it was available. Learn something new every day.
Had a friend with a 2008 Sterling (looked just like a Ram/Dodge) 5500. I believe it had the Aisin. He stated it was possibly the best truck he ever had. One DPF in 300k - no engine/transmission issues at all.

My buddy Stan had 3 bullet 5500s in his tow truck fleet. One of the reasons I bought what I did. Saturday night he had a retirement party for the last remaining 09 with 613000 miles on the odometer. No major engine or tranny work. The other 2 -09s were total losses in different accidents. The 09 was replaced with a 19 Dodge 5500.

So roughly speaking, here is dealers offer:
?0 5500 crew cab 60 CA 4x4 Laramie package, max GCWR, snow plow prep and a few other small items.
MSRP $73,000
Body up fit $6,000 (aluminum flatbed, gooseneck hitch & aluminum tool boxes)
Fees $600
Total price $80,100
Dealer discount $5,200
Vehicle price $74,900
Tax & doc fees $4,400
Subtotal $79,300
Trade allowance $11,000
Total due $68,300

The trade in is overvalued by a few thousand. $11,000 is about what it would sell for as a open market sale. So they are not giving me an overly big discount. This will be my first new truck in 13 years. Man they got expensive! Haven't purchased yet. Still considering another dealers offers, or buying nothing at all. Picture below is similar to chassis I’m considering.

Well, doesnt that sound reasonable? I mean its only like $1005.00 per month, each and every month for the next 6 years....peanuts
No matter which truck, you might find it worth your time to chat with T&G about the upfit.

I know, right? It’s awful, but present truck is failing me to the point where repairs and unreliability are too much to handle.
It’s been a loooong time since I have treated myself to anything remotely new.

Beautiful!! Any information good/bad you can share?

I'm looking at a 5500 Laramie crew cab chassis in white with max towing & max payload. I'm really confused about the towing ratings.
On-line truck description says max trailer weight 22,590. My 2008 550 does that easily. 2019 Brochures claim GCWR 43,000 and max towing 29,960lbs.
There are no 2020 4500/5500 towing specs published yet. I am going off 2019, but I dont like doing that.

If you didnt see it, a ton of other good info in there also. I often keep a vehicle past warranty and dont mind working on them myself. The only issues Ive had where I really needed "the book" was with wiring stuff and its all in the bodybuilder stuff.

Well, she arrived last Friday and all I could get was a quick picture from one angle. So now begins the waiting game :( of the body company (Eby) getting my aluminum flatbed installed. I don稚 know when they will reopen.
2020 Laramie 5500 crew cab 4WD 60 c/a.
Eby installing 8 x 9 aluminum bed with 45,000lb hitch (interchangeable 3 & 2-5/16). 2) 30 toolboxes under bed and 2)48 boxes topside. I will be moving my DeeZee 80 gallon fuel cell up against the cab shield myself.
