Hooks on Bucket

Titan makes pallet fork and clamp on bucket lip hooks, rings and receivers. Not a big fan of clamp on devices. A simple strap choked to a fork works for light loads. Choke your loads when you can to prevent slipping.
Be careful, plan on failure and make sure you and others are in safe positions. Many of the things done on the farm would get you fired on the job site.

Well, so far I've only used my hooks for dead lifting static loads. But I won't say "never" to pulling on something with them. It would have to be small and light, whatever it was though. For more "serious" pulling, I'd just use a clevis or similar on my draw bar.

Exactly. Someone yanking on an outside corner of their bucket is asking for a twisted or broken FEL frame. Serious pulling should only be with a fixed draw bar, not a 3 pt drawbar.

I would suggest welding hooks onto a solid steel plate then bolt the plate to the loader. That way if you ever needed to you could remove them very easily. I welded 3 hooks onto some scrap 3/8" steel plate that already had some holes in it and bolted it in place with 4 Grade-5 bolts I already had. I have used these hooks more times in the last 6 months then I can count ! Them and a piranha bar completes my FEL.

Very nice job. My Kioti came with plates factory welded on to weld hooks onto. If I say so, my stick welds look better than the factory MIG welds of the plate.

should I weld a base plate & then grab hooks on plate or just grab hook ? going on a 6'6" skid steer QA Kubota 525 loader. L3901 tractor ?

I have a Kioti CK30 and instead of permanent hooks I'm using a strap that comes with a flat hook on one end and a sown loop at the other. The strap is used by the tow industry to attach onto the rear axle of fwd cars. In the loop I insert either a D-ring or hook as shown in picture. The flat hook just hooks over the back edge on my loader or the cutting edge of the bucket. Easy and cheap and temporary and versatile etc. Dutchy

Welding is always much faster than drilling holes and bolting. Strength wise, bolting or welding will hold more than any compact or utility tractor can lift or pull. At the time, I didn't have any place so I found some 3'x4" x 3/8" thick plate at a hardware store that was made to install leaf springs and used that to weld to my FEL. No weld on hooks were available but a regular chain hook that was cut with a grinder to lay flat was easily welded to the plate.
They hold more than my 70 HP utility tractor can lift and have never had any indications of damage to the FEL. I have used them for pulling trees while backing up also. Just lowered the FEL to skid along the ground so the rear wheels stayed glued to the ground.

Here is what I did on our B7500 when I rebuilt the loader bucket.

I welded a piece of 2"x2" 3/16" angle to the top of the bucket and then welded hooks to that. I left the clevis part of the hook for the chain would normally go sticking out the back so that I can hook a chain through it if I need to pull from behind the bucket.
I'm not sure what it did to the ultimate strength of the hook, but given that it is a 19 horsepower hydrostatic tractor, I don't think I'm going to be able to hurt it.

I welded two chain hooks in line with the loader arms, similar to what most guys do. I found they were lacking when I needed to chain the bucket down to the trailer or when I chain the bucket to the forks when loaded on the trailer, so I had some extra 1/2” D rings I welded on. I cut 4” square pieces of 1/2” plate to beef it up a little more. My loader will pick up 2 tons, so I wanted it plenty stout.

One thing for sure if the stick weld looks good, you don't have to worry about penetration. Which you can't always say about MIG. I have seen some beautiful MIG welds that look good, but were not' burned in hot enough, and there was no penetration to speak of. Kinda like a hot glue gun, and held about as well.

Thanks. I was kinda proud of it. AND another commercial welder took my photo he got from the internet and posted it on his own site as an example of his own work!. I was pretty pixxed off and told he so, but he didn't seem to care. It has been several years ago, and another TBN member had seen it and mentioned it to me.

Yup, they can be very "pretty" but a glue gun probably held just as good . . . :drink: how true.

I have just used the Bolt on hooks that you get at Harbor Freight. They are not grab hooks but work great. I have had them on 3 tractors. The good thing is that they are about $10 each with bolts included. A 2" receiver in the middle is a nice addition as well. Gives you all the flexibility you could ever want.

Know what you are saying.

I had a small hoe once that was MIG welded, looked good but when digging out a 1/2 yard or so rock the whole arm separated cleanly from the pivot point.
No real penetration!
LOL was funny to see it all laid out on the ground.
Shows how powerful hydraulic power is.
