Bought this today, going to fix it up over the summer at my cousin's house. Was sitting for a long time, jumped it and it cranks but would not start. Any common problem with these? Once I get it started I guess I will know more. Have only had a Kubota BX, but never a Deere of this size.
Anyone know how to release the transmission, I believe it is Hydrostatic and all other tractors I had there was a neutral or a valve release. I have to put it on a flatbed.

Does it have a hi lo range shifter? If so there should be a neutral position also.

Just found a manual. Looks like there are some steps, one being a range lever like you mentioned. Picking it up tomorrow, guess I'll play it by ear. Thanks.

when you turn the key you should hear a click - fuel shut off valve could be stuck or bad there is also a thermistor that goes bad - look in deere section you will find a thread

Will check that thread. Thank you so much. Going to flat bed it out tomorrow, then try to get it going when I have time to visit him. Want to teach my daughter about how to run equipment, good to have girls learning this as well.

It looks like there was a Curtis cab on the tractor at one point in time.

The cab is there, found the doors and other parts in a heap in the yard. They look rough, but did not have time to assess all of the pieces yet. Tractor needs some TLC, but the price seemed right so I bought it as a project to work on with my cousin, his kids, and my daughter. If the arrangement works for all of us, fine, if not, might just sell it. Personally I don't have a place of my own to keep it. Used to have my own place and enjoyed my Kubota, this is a great hobby and good skills to learn to operate, repair and maintain these machines.

Looks like a great project. I don’t understand how someone could just park this and leave it sit. I’m sure there was a reason, but why didn’t they try to fix this machine that was probably close to $25k as equipped, new?! I can’t stand to have something sitting around that doesn’t work. But, that’s just me at this point in my life.

I feel the same way. I'd love to find something like this as a second tractor.

Just put the range selector in neutral.
