I had a rainy day off work so I decide to spend some time in the shop and catch up on some much needed maintenance on my old faithful 1993 F150. I bought this truck new but for the last 11 years it’s primarily purpose is for hunting and traveling to our rural property. I had not done a drum break job in 16 years. I know this because the receipt for for the break shoes was dated 2004.

Needless to say I tore both sides apart and returned with parts. While cleaning parts I got a little gray hair confusion and was not sure of which spring was which. I turned to YouTube and a kid (maybe 16) walked me through reassembly. I was a bit embarrassed I needed help doing something I used to do regularly but also felt good that there was young man out there driving and wrenching on a real truck.

I only dismantle one side at a time though both are open to see. That way I need only walk around the truck to see what goes where on my 1969 F100.

Yes, back in the older days, the common practice for me was to dismantle only one side at a time so I could always walk to the opposite side of the vehicle and look at the configuration in real time and also "High Definition", ha...

Yep, that would be the preferred method but I had to have all four shoes to get the lifetime replacements from the parts store. When you keep a truck 27 years the lifetime parts sure does come in handy.

I learned to drive on 69 Ford F100. Three on the tree, manual choke, no power anything. I nearly cried when Daddy sold that truck.

Was it that kinda metallic lime green? That was a common color then.

It was the Ranger edition with a white top and sorta torquoise.
