Good morning. We are having a couple of hours reprisal from the rain. The ever hungry wood burners need more food and if I don't hang around I should be able to swing the splitting maul long enough in the dry to fill a couple of wheelbarrows. I have a hydraulic splitter that fits on the 3-point, but for little loads it takes too long. To be honest I enjoy swinging an axe, maybe I should sell the hydraulic. With hindsight, an electric like your 5 tonner Mostly may have been a better choice for me too. Rick, how are you getting on with your splitter, now you have it on it's own stand ?

This world is proving to be a different place since I got the hearing aids and not just with voices. I notice my clothes rustling with each step, a teaspoon colliding with the side of a cup made me jump and yesterday the rain was pounding on the car roof, yet the wipers only needed to run at a leisurely pace to keep the windscreen clear.

The audiologist warned me that it would take some getting used to. The "normal" setting does not yet amplify the missing frequencies back up to ordinary levels of hearing, she set them all lower to give me chance to gradually adjust to what has been missing for quite a few years. I go back in a couple of weeks time to get tweaked up to the next level. Even with this first level of adjustment, radio and tv are already much clearer with both male and female voices. The weird thing is that my wife's voice sounds no different to before. Either the frequency components that make up her voice just happen to be the ones that didn't require adjustment, or my brain gives her speech some additional processing :confused2:

Don, I will report back in a day or two once I have checked out more details on the hardware and the phone app.

Good Morning! It's 47° with light NW winds. High is expected to be 61° this afternoon but overcast all day. It just drizzled rain all day after about 10:30 a.m. yesterday so ... cold and wet working except when I as was in the tractor cab.

I finished trimming up a live oak tree and cut down 7 more cedar trees. The cedars will be the base for another burn pile in a different pasture.







The HF Lynxx 40 volt pole saw is great for trimming low tree branches and indispensable for reaching in to cut down cedars.







LS ... your paint job looks great! Good job.

Mostly ... that's an interesting splitter. And no gas engine to maintain.

BEF ... glad you're making such great improvements in your health.

Went to Ellen’s sisters house for pizza and salad last night, very nice folks, I like her BIL a lot.

Looks like a grocery pick up this morning, might visit mom today. I’ll see where the energy meter settles. Had a busy one yesterday.

Poured last cup of coffee. 27° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 44° with sunny skies in afternoon. Got aunts and my shopping done before crowds got to big yesterday. Going to Port Huron to visit my aunt that got out of rehab this week after a 3 month stay.
My aunt and I had lunch at my place yesterday. She showed me the fine art of making a salami sandwich. Her, bread, butter, touch of mayonnaise and a touch yellow mustard then single layer of salami. Me, bread, lots of mayonnaise on one slice, lots of yellow mustard on other slice, double layer of salami. Hers no drips of mustard or mayonnaise. Me drips all over the place and the great taste of mustard on salami. :cool2:

Buckeye, glad to hear your Dr. visit was good.

Randy, never had eye floaters yet. Glad you were able to get help. Showed my aunt your procedure and all the jokes. I think she is considering getting a tractor so she can join the group.

1F clear sky mid 20's for high....first day of winter.

Yesterday afternoon as I pass the pickup notice odd marking on the side that wasn't there in the morning just about dark went to feed critters and there stood lil peanut lapping side door for the salt,she slowly walk away after top off feeding station she return cleaning pickup door.

Plans for today...quick trip to town,couple putter jobs,watch some football later today...just keep active.

It works well. I want to build a better steel stand with a bit wider base and pallet fork slots in the Spring. I need to split some wood for our outdoor fire pit at the house to get ready for Christmas fires.



I went low tech for our patio Chiminea. It likes 12-14” logs so I cut the rounds, with my chain saw, then split them with a kindling splitter and 4# hammer.

Mostly, that is almost the same wood splitter I had and now Kyle has. No tractor required, and small storage space and easy start. It split 95% of all wood I fed it and on the large pieces I just cut a 4-5" groove in the top of the large logs to help it get a start split.

The "oak killer" here is the Hypoxylon canker. Probably same at your farm.

We have left one area, at the north end of one of our pastures, totally undisturbed. When we had the snow December 8, 2017, the big cedars in that area looked pretty cool.

sad that trees get such bad diseases, no immunizations, Rick looks like your version of the Elm Blight, the Dogwood blight, and even the Rust in my apple trees.
I spray at least three times a year, or I'd probably have almost nothing left. Bad enough birds cleaned out my entire fruit orchard in three days.
Rick's trees will be job security for him for a long time.

Off to my nice neighbors across the road with a plate of cranberry orange muffins I just baked. Extra heat in the kitchen felt good.

Thanks for the compliments on the canopy! It should help nicely with the bright sun. I didn’t get to put on the backhoe and dig the trench yesterday, so maybe today. I have a few things to do in the shop first, so maybe not....

Talking about tree problems, we have quite a few black locust trees. Last year, some of them snapped in half..... I thought it was due to wind but found there are “ locust borers “. Sure enough, they bored out tunnels almost completely through the trunk causing it to snap. Not much can be done about them without almost continuous spraying. It will be survival of the fittest.....

Looking like an indoor day. Did get my new concrete area cleaned up and ready for next phase but that will take a dry day.

Lots of good looking work on GM as usual

RNG, sure would be nice if HD included the mixer with the concrete purchase. They didn’t. I got the medium, 300lb mixer, $67/day. 3 bags easily. Slain got the bull float, $17/day.

51F here this morning, winds 18mph out of south.

Yesterday was a busy day, my big plan was to get enhanced driver license (needed to renew my license anyway). Wife decided to go along since she had a few errands also. Went to the DOL and found out they had moved since I was there last.. went to new location, wife dropped me and went to run errands while I waited at DOL, except I was in and out in under 20 minutes. Called her to come back and get me... basically spent the day running around in town. Got a quick visit with Dad and his wife, then off to pick grand daughter up from school.. she enjoys Papa picking her up. She is much better now, slept good last night after being sick mostly since last Sunday.

Always amazes me how busy TBN folks are, stay safe, prayers for those in need.

Yes, I too have an electric - 4 ton - and it does great job. Even with Maple as ling as there are no knots. Great indoors for splitting already split pieces to make kindling.

Meanwhile, we are already about a third of the way through that giant pile of white pine that we split up in the spring. Stuff burns fast, but sure starts easily!

Txdon, you can extinguish that behaviour very quickly with a product called “Pet Corrector”. It is an aerosol spray can that let’s out a very noisy “hiss” when you push the button, and is about the size of a can of hairspray.

We use it on our Airedale Terrier whenever he lunges at or barks at another dog, or even if he is barking on the deck at the cottage. Very effective.
