I don't buy what you are selling. All you have to do is sound your horn as you approach a car from behind or if you see them start to drift into your lane. The real purpose for the noise of a harley is because you like it, and you don't care how many people you annoy.

I hate those things when they pass my horse trailer screaming like a banshee. I know and expect a big rig to be loud because it is required, but there is no need of those bikes scaring the crap out of the horses just because the owner likes the noise. Same goes for rice rockets and coal rollers, I would like to see the police ticket all of them.

I have a Camaro with a loud exhaust, but it's not bad unless I stomp on it. ie, it's loud and fun when I want it to be, but quiet and courteous when I don't. My wife has a horse and I (we) often trailer it on the highways. It's probably due to being on that end of the scenario myself, but if/when I am being loud and obnoxious with my car, I always try to make sure I'm not doing it next to anyone hauling animals, or anyone with their window down, etc. It's just a matter of common courtesy, something a lot of drivers lack these days. Someone can still have a loud vehicle and have manners at the same time.

Most guys that roll coal do it because they think it's cool or funny. Those that do it directed at other motorists or pedestrians are just plain a**holes and deserve to have it piped back into their own cab.

Been riding motorcycle for decades. The "load pipes saves lives" is total crap !!

I recently bought an '18 6.6 Duramax diesel Chevy and it does run very clean compared to older trucks. I wouldn't say that I'm in favor of all of the HP robbing emissions BS these days, but I also do not condone rolling coal on people just to be an a-hole or just for attention. I've been told at least 100 times in the 2 months since I bought this truck that I should delete it, tune it etc. But I really have no desire or need to. It has plenty of HP and torque for my purposes and I'm not about to void warranties and basically make it illegal.

Rolling coal on people is just plain ignorant and disrespectful, and deserving of an *** kicking. Loud exhaust systems are a different story. I doubt that most people do it just to annoy others. If you are a gearhead, performance driven person odds are exhaust mods are more about HP and the sound that comes with it. There is no better sound than a well tuned, strong, high HP engine pumping out power and speed. Of course, that sound is completely different for different engines and owners. I hate the sound of "fart cans" on little tuner cars, and also extremely loud Harley type cruiser bikes. Especially when just revving either one just to make noise and draw attention. But I love the sound of a sportbike screaming high rpms (please do not call them rice rockets or crotch rockets, lol) or any muscle car type sports car or truck that just roars with horsepower. Someone made a comment about a screaming Banshee......I have a Yamaha Banshee with way too many mods to list including exhaust mods. That screaming Banshee sound, literally, is just amazing to me but I'm sure it pisses off my neighbors, lol. My Yamaha R1 (1000cc sportbike) with mods including exhaust sounds like a racebike, which it essentially is. And again, winding up to 13,000 rpm's is just plain awesome to me but I'm sure it annoys some people. Nothing beats using all of your available HP sometimes and the exhaust from it is just a bonus. Everyone has their own opinion of what actually sounds good though. If you are one that is annoyed by it, deal with it the same way I have to deal with your quiet little no HP ride not being able to get out of my way, LOL.

When some ç�¯ç²•head pulls up beside you at a light and just sits there twisting the throttle, looking at you and grinning while his gf sits on back giggling, he’s just trying to be obnoxious. Unfortunately it works. Yet that wasn’tthe point being made; the question is do loud pipes save lives. Considering that by the time you hear them they are past you; probably not.
Also keep in mind that it’s louder for the people behind the exhaust than it is for a rider on a bike, or the driver of a truck.

You can the same about jake brakes; properly used they do help the driver. Yet too many use them unnecessarily; coming down a straight stretch, or when coming up on an intersection instead of slowly winding down they need to keep getting into the throttle and backing off. Add to that how many trucks are running straight pipes and the drivers are their own worst enemy.m
The reason my “little no go ride”?is going so slow is because I can’t afford another speeding ticket... or because it’s a residential neighborhood and other people are using the road.

Talking about nice sounding exhaust, the best I ever owned was a '55 Ford when I was 16. I put in a 292 with what we called a "wild cam" back then and 2" straight pipes all the way back to the bumped.

Idling through town, it was a head turner for sure. The only draw back was I couldn't sneak back home after my curfew. The pipes would wake up Dad.

Brings back memories from 25 years ago. I got an older 1978 Ford 250 all jacked up with and big tires and 4 on the floor to pull my 32' fifth wheel camper. The nice thing about it, it had a 390 with and RV cam, headers and cherry bomb glass packs. It sounded great while idling and when stomping on it it roared, a nice roar. Imagine the racket when pulling a heavy camper. But, hey, it was fun to drive. The trouble with it was it was really a pooch compared to my diesel. Did I mention it was fun to drive?

They had a guy in our state that deleted all his emission controls on his new diesel truck.

Guy got a $13,000 fine, plus had to get his emission controls installed back on his truck.
