My lady friend told me, the day I met her that she was going to quit smoking. That was over ten years ago. SHE just can't do it. I feel bad for her, and her almost certain unpleasant future or lack thereof.

Bubba Joe's uncle smoked all of his life and never got cancer, and died at 97 years old. What's all of this crap about cigarettes being bad for you?
I remember being in a function back in HS and recognizing my father's smoking cough while I was standing back to, making a presentation. Thankfully he quit for good a few years later, and lived a healthy life another 35 years before Alzheimer's took him. Hypnosis worked for him, while others may find a different method that works.

My step dad smoked continuously and drank enough brandy. When pestered about it, he would always say, you have to die of something. Somehow, it didn`t prepare him for having his throat cut out and dying in a terrible way. I couldn`t even be around him in his final days, as the stink would make me vomit.

I think not.. Crack, Heroin, meth and pot are all mind altering drugs and they present the addiction problem in this country..

I don't condone smoking cigarettes, it's good for nothing, but comparing the drugs that cause people to do things they normally would not do and completely wreck their lives and others around them including dying at very young ages isn't even a comparison..

I disagree. Cigarette smoking costs our society many times more money than the drugs you listed combined. The user numbers are hundreds of times more. And don't for a second think nicotine doesn't alter your mind. A perfect example was given above which started this topic.

You're both right in that they are both dangerous vices and harmful. Hard drugs are worse in a quicker way and Ciggies are slower but more widely used and pervasive.

If both were equally out lawed equally it wouldn't bother me at all.

My wife smoked about 2 packs a day when I met her. She quit numerous times, and each time seemed to smoke one or two cigs less per day. At the very end she was smoking about 2 a day. I had a no smoking policy in the house (it was my house) and she tells me she was outside smoking one day and my dog walked out and (according to her) looked at her like ... WTF are you doing... and walked back into the house. That was enough for her to finally quit. So all those talks we had and all the the things she did to quit and it was my dog that made it happen. :laughing: :laughing: Go figure.
