Why do people not want to work?

No surprise that once again there is little middle ground. On the one side are those that don't want to work, or want to work but are less than motivated. On the other are the workaholics, the azzkissers and yes men. I have known a few of them, and no, they will never see their just reward. One day, their wealthy bosses just announce, oh by the way, I sold the company. But don't worry "nothing will change". Oh those famous words!

When the CLEC in Springfield was scheduled to close down, the big boss came in to our meeting room and the first words out of his mouth were "the job you have today will be the job you have tomorrow nothing will change". I said, Yeah but for how long? And he said "each of you will be counseled individually by HR". I said, "do you really think we are not going to discuss this amongst our selves?" He then said Fine!, you have a month!. Then all the others asked "hey what about me?" Turns out most of us had a month or less of work left, with about 3 having 3 months to close out the systems. Yeah, I don't know why bosses want to come in and sugar coat the firing of employees and give false hope to them that their jobs are secure. I suppose it is so they won't all quit in disgust immediately and they won't have enough people to close things down in an orderly fashion. Rat's leaving a sinking ship philosophy.

* P.S. it turned out that "the job you have today.." was BS also. I finished out my month NOT doing the job I had today (engineer) but was demoted to being a technician and running service calls in a van. I was qualified to do this as I had worked as a Telco tech for about 21 years with another company. They had fired all of the techs and sales people the morning of the meeting and they were met at the door with their "boxes" of personal items, and their entry badges collected. They didn't even get to come into the building or attend the meeting. Pretty crappy if you ask me. I was able to get another engineering job in Harrison Ar. secured before my month was out with the same company and the company paid for my move to Branson, Mo. where I am now. Now you know why I live in Branson, Mo. It ain't about the music shows. Harrison Ar. is over the border from Branson, Mo.

In smaller companies, the key azz kissers or workaholics ARE the company. So, it's important, that they stay,long enough for the old owner to get the money stashed away and put distance between themselves and their old business.

Especially with the lower educated and least able to afford.

They know it causes cancer and either say they don’t care or started young because their parents smoked.

I think not.. Crack, Heroin, meth and pot are all mind altering drugs and they present the addiction problem in this country..

I don't condone smoking cigarettes, it's good for nothing, but comparing the drugs that cause people to do things they normally would not do and completely wreck their lives and others around them including dying at very young ages isn't even a comparison..

I disagree. Cigarette smoking costs our society many times more money than the drugs you listed combined. The user numbers are hundreds of times more. And don't for a second think nicotine doesn't alter your mind. A perfect example was given above which started this topic.

So does nicotine make people hallucinate, act volatile towards others, attack hospital personal, ambulance personnel and anyone really that's around them?

Smoking cigarettes isn't even close to the destruction that the opioid and narcotics addictions problem we have is this country.

Trust me I think smoking anything is pretty dumb.. I have seen two in my own family kill themselves in their twenties because of drug addiction, it's an epidemic..

Voluntary sucking smoke of any kind into you're lungs is foolishness.. It might kill you it might not, get hooked on one of the above and you're life is over.. I'm going to bow out of this one, I said my peace..
