Good Morning!!!! 73F @ 5:45AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 103F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Same forecast as yesterday, only hotter. Not much change in the ten day, either.:muttering:

What will they think of next, Rick? Thanks for passing along the info on the grease fitting unclogger. Amazon also showed one made by Lincoln, which has a very funny two star review (the long winded one): https://www.amazon.com/product-revi...e=UTF8&filterByStar=two_star&showViewpoints=0

Used to explore wild caves in Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia when I was much younger. One trip leader's favorite trick was to pass gas in long, narrow crawls, a trick he found hilarious and no one else did.:yuck: Best trip started with a 40' rappel at the entrance, into a room that was chock full of formations. We started at about 9PM, the rest of the cave was also well decorated, and then had to use Jumar ascenders to climb the ropes back out. Popping out of the hole into a winter wonderland was a surprise, as there was no snow when we started. It was coming down hard, and the crystals sparkled in the light of our carbide lamps.

Been putting off a screen repair for some five years now. Gee, fellas, thanks for the reminder.

By some miracle, I found the paint used for the trim on the house, and it was still OK after a ride on the paint shaker machine. Took two coats to cover the first fascia board yesterday, so today while the big ladder is still in place, I can string the tubing for the sprinkler system. Won't get to try it out until the paint has had a day or two more to bake out. So more wire brushing and priming is on the agenda for today, but I think I can reach most of it while standing/sitting on the roof.

Yet another contractor sent by PG&E, the electrical utility, came to inspect the power line easement yesterday. This was the third time this year, and guess what? No further trimming is needed. Coincidentally, I received a legal notice from PG&E stating that I have until October to file a claim for damages against them for the Camp Fire, as the judge in their bankruptcy proceedings has set a deadline for applying. I've received a small payment from my insurance company for lost trees, but it covered only a small fraction of what was lost. So if I can figure out how to file without hiring an attorney, I'll start counting dead trees on satellite images and see what happens.

Happy Hump Day, gang!

RNG, I think the “secret to success” with the rejuvenator tool is using Fluid Film. I inject the FF and give it time to work before hitting the zerk with grease gun.

Another handy tool.

63°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 83° today. I don't hate this weather.

Had an unplanned day off yesterday. An overnight "issue" with the nephew netted me a total of about two hours sleep Monday night. Got up late yesterday, and decided to take a pass on work to get things straightened out. Got as much done as we could, then turned my attention to items on the honey-do list. Lowe's delivered the new chicken coop building late last week (an 8'x8' shed we're converting into a walk-in hen house), and dropped the material bundles right inside the door of the barn, blocking everything in. Tried using the tractor to lift it, and realized quickly the folly of that without pallet forks. All I managed to do was scoot it a bit, then flipped it over so I couldn't get under it at all. I keep telling myself that I cannot justify buying forks, and yet I really could have used them yesterday. Ended up taking the two bundles apart and moving everything by hand, piece by piece, and re-stacking it at the back of the barn.

With that out of the way, I decided to get some mowing done. Wife was planning to do it tomorrow, once I got the building materials moved, so I figured I'd get some of it done for her. I ended up just doing it all. Finished up around 6:30pm. Now her "day off" from dog training today can actually be a day off.

Hang in there, BEF.

Pallet forks and fork extensions are so handy. Mine are 48” x 4000 lb. and extensions are 72”. Both are Titan and came from palletforks.com

I used both when I moved a neighbor’s deer blind, he had built, to its final location last week. It was 6’ x 6’ x 7’ high. I actually had to back up to move it as I could not see around it.

RNG which caves in Virginia?

Good question, Buppies. Unfortunately, the answers are lost in the mists of time. Maybe one was called Culpepper? And another called Higgenbotham #1 and #2?

Have to be careful here to avoid awakening old pastimes...

I couldn't resist building a pallet fork attachment when I found a bin full of forks at the local junkyard. I never realized how handy they'd be, and they're the implement I pretty much leave on the tractor all the time.

Hope you get the nephew straightened out without too much fuss...

Back when I bought the pin type quick attach for my tractor. The first item I purchased was a set of pallets forks. Dealer gave me a very good price. Because they did not have proper pin location for a newer tractor. Took one evening to modify the pin hole location to fit my quick attach. It's the only attachment that does not require a mallet to get pins out.
Recently I purchased a set of 5' extensions for the 3' forks. I think I got the idea from Rick. I use the forks for more than moving pallets. Works good to dig a shrub out.

For many years, my go to hearing protection, while mowing was a pair of the 3M Worktunes AM / FM headphones. They were the yellow / black ones. I put nearly 1000 ZT hours on them. The earmuffs started falling apart so I trashed them and ordered a new set of the Worktunes AM / FM headphones with Bluetooth from Amazon.

Now, with just over two years of use, the earmuff on one side has deteriorated. Did some research and found that if you contact 3M they’ll send you replacement earmuffs free of charge. . The earmuffs just snap off and on.

That’s .... great customer service! I know there are others on here using Worktunes, maybe Ron?

Guess I should have held on to the old ones?

Yup. They are better than other brands. My latest pair is the best. I keep getting them caught in the pine trees. Ripping the wires out. No warranty for that. The Bluetooth set I had lasted the shortest time. Wires were to small and delicate. Plus they were always trying to hook up to another Bluetooth output.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

Had a visitor this AM. I believe it is a barn funnel weaver spider. Usually we get wolf spiders which are more aggressive. Safely captured and relocated outside.

A mixed clouds/sun 56ºF for today's low temperature; a sunny 75ºF presently, close to today's anticipated high temperature. With the breeze the grass is drying. I see lots of lawn mowing, string trimming, and bush walking in my future.

Wifey and I have done most of the available cave tours in the NE (PA and north).

"To set a goal then that high, then pull it off took a lot of effort. Wish we could use some of that with today's problems"- Bruce I agree. We need another "Greatest Generation" with a couple of "Boomers" thrown in the mix. I do not seeing that happening any time soon.

Drew- Good luck with the RV research, acquisition, and trip planning. I'lll be following your exploits here or anywhere.

Farmer- My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for your Son, you, and the rest of your family. Good luck.

Paul- I am sorry to read about your night with Nephew. :(

BEF- My continued + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for you and your family.

Ted- Thanks for sharing the weather pictures.

Rick- Thanks for the tractor pictures.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Yeah, that's starting to look like a tall order. He moved in with us a couple of months ago to get away from the garbage and drama that messed up his life, and have a chance to get back on his feet as a responsible adult. He was dong fine up until a couple of weeks ago. He's been starting to drag that garbage and drama back, and it's come to a head over the last few days. His erratic behavior Monday night has us convinced there's more than just alcohol involved. Wife is livid with him right now. At 23 years old, I think he just doesn't get it yet. Young and dumb (we've all been there), and making some really bad decisions.

There has been and continues to be "too much fuss," but we're determined to get him back on a straighter path.
