Help me understand the logic.

So you can buy a new pickup, a rv that stays parked 350 days a year, a boat to go with the RV, a tractor that you probably don’t need to begin with, plenty of implements that probably get used once a year, and hundred of minor things that can’t all be listed. But buying a backhoe or a nice lawnmower is waste of money and anyone that mentions those ideas gets flamed?? It makes no sense to me.

Because it is so much easier to rent a backhoe than a mower or tractor, and you can rent a much heavier duty easier to use one than any tractor mounted backhoe

Priorities.. A nice lawn mower is one of my priorities, a backhoe on a tractor is not but if someone buys one I couldn’t care less.. I rent an excavator once a year for $400, my brother runs it and operates them for a living so what I need done is done in a day..

one thing is the size of the back hoe, I built one a number of years ago, and it does a lot of stuff, it has a depth reach of about 7 foot, max realistically 6 foot is more a reality, and the problem is I have seen a lot with a lot less, depth capability, for smaller tractors,

mine is great for digging a hole for a hydrant or to fix our water lines, but if I needed to dig for a basement, I would have to do it in two stages, and the time involved for a 12" wide bucket is time consuming, so in larger jobs hiring a commercial hoe would be prudent, for my needs the hoe I have is a helpful, but I know many buy one and use a few times and it set and sets and sets,

I've been out here 38 years. Knew when I bought my first tractor - I would not need a backhoe. Same situation when I bought the Kubota. If I ever need a backhoe - my neighbor has a dedicated JD backhoe. He would be more than happy to do most any backhoe work I ever needed.

Simply no need to purchase a piece of equipment that I know will not be used.

Looks like I may be the only one here solidly in your backhoe camp, but...I AM solidly there.
I have had an industrial Ford TLB for 33 years, and now I have my recent Kubota L48 purchase.
I don't need to justify it.
I WANT it!
Just like the guy does with the new pickup, the big diesel RV, and the boat.

My confession: I did buy a new pickup .....back in 1977....still have it too.
I have never had big RV.
For 11 years, I did have 44' - 50,000lb. boat.
Now I have a mid size industrial Kubota TLB

Times/desires change!

I don稚 care what others buy, or think, to each their own.
I have a little backhoe on the Kubota B2601. And I love it, for our uses it is perfect, use it all the time, for odd little jobs that I知 too old and crippled to mess with otherwise
I am way to far away from rental places to rent a backhoe when I need one, and even if I was closer, there is no guarantee they would have one available, when I want it.

i dont care what people get, i hope you buy 2 backhoes, i have had the need to use one 4 times that i can think of right off in my life and we just rented a mini excavator twice and called the plumber one time and i dug out the other one with my skid steer it just took longer and a much larger hole LOL!!!!

I've never been flamed for having a backhoe, or even read any negative comments on a backhoe. Guess I've just been lucky.

I bought my backhoe used 15 years ago and can't imagine not having it. When it's broke down, I do anything and everything that it takes to get it up and running. I can't say that about anything else that I own except my work truck.
